He didn’t even glance at the divorce. agreement, sneering, “Divorce? Adriana, did you ask for my permission? After all these years, do you still not understand me? You love me so much, how could you possibly want to divorce me?”
“Don’t try to provoke me like this. I’ve never thought about divorcing you. Stop with your unrealistic ideas.” With that, he threw the divorce agreement into the trash.
I stared at his back, “Simon, I don’t love you anymore.”
He suddenly spun around and slammed his fist onto the table, “You’re lying! Adriana, you’re lying! You think just because the company is worth more now, you’re eager to split the assets, right? Don’t think I don’t know your intentions. I don’t agree. You can forget about it!”
I didn’t bother responding. After a pause, I

turned and left the room.
So, even now, he still feared I might take his money. He was even afraid that I would share the property with him.
After the argument, Simon didn’t come home for several days. I didn’t pay much attention to it.
I was getting the hang of the work at the law firm and just as I was about to head out, I received a call from my daughter’s homeroom teacher, “Mrs. Webster, why aren’t you here for the parent meeting? You’re the only one missing.” A parent meeting?
“The school requires that at least one parent attends,” After saying that, the teacher hung up.
No one else was attending the meeting for our daughter and Simon hadn’t shown up either? I thought for a moment and then decided to go.
To my surprise, when I arrived and was

shown to a seat, someone was already
sitting there.
Kourtney turned and smiled at me,
“Adriana, what brings you here? Vivian
wanted me to attend in her place, I thought you knew about it.”
The teacher on the stage called out, “Which parent are you here for? Please sit down. quickly, the meeting is about to start.”
The classroom was already full and there were no available seats. The teacher continued to urge me, while Kourtney remained seated, not planning to offer me
her seat.
I didn’t want to argue with her, so I simply turned and left, returning home.
At home, I began packing up my things, getting ready to leave. I hadn’t planned to rush things, after all, I hadn’t found a new place yet, but now, I just wanted to leave quickly.
Packing took quite a bit of time and by the

time I finished, it was already dark. The house was eerily quiet, no one had returned.
Every part of the house held memories of me carefully arranging things and even though I was reluctant, I eventually locked. the door for the last time.
A week later, Simon reached out to me, “Adriana, please don’t bring up the divorce again. Let’s just pretend I didn’t hear it.”
“I’m not working late tonight. I want to eat your braised ribs.” From the tone of his voice, it was clear he hadn’t been home in the past week and didn’t know I had already left.
I didn’t respond. He called immediately after, but I hung up. He didn’t call again.
At the end of the workday, I was the last one to leave. It was nearly dark when I reached the exit and suddenly felt a figure
crash into my arms.
“Mom!” It was Vivian.

I hadn’t seen her in so long and I froze in place for a moment. She hugged me tightly, “Mom, I missed you so much.”
For a moment, I was moved. Just as I was about to ask her how she’d been, she spoke first, “Mom, please, save Aunt Kourtney!” I froze completely.
She clung to my waist, shaking my body, “Aunt Kourtney really needs a new kidney. Please, Mom, donate yours to her!”
