“If you‘ re sick, go to the hospital. You’re not welcomed in my house.”
Thomas suddenly collapsed to his knees at my feet, groveling like a speck of dust.
“Cheryl, for the sake of the five years we were married, please forgive me just this once. I promise, from now on, I’ll be completely devoted to you. If you want children, we’ll have them–however many
you want.

I pried his fingers off the hem of my skirt, one by one and then pulled out a handkerchief from my bag to wipe the hand that had
touched him.
“I only have one request.”
Upon hearing that, a flicker of hope appeared on Thomas‘ s face. He wiped his tears and looked at me eagerly.
“Does that mean you forgive me?”
I shook my head, not sparing him another glance.
“From now on, please disappear from my life, never show up again.”
With that, everything I had to say was said.
I turned and walked back into the house, but Thomas followed closely behind me.

“Cheryl, is it only if the man inside is dead that you’ll ever love me again?”
As I watched him charge toward the kitchen, a quick flash of worry crossed my face.
Clive was cooking inside. The next second, there was the sound of a scuffle coming from
the kitchen.
“Ah…”
By the time I reached the kitchen door, Thomas was already lying on the floor, knocked out cold. When it came to fighting, he was no match for Clive.
In a final act of desperation, he stumbled over to the gas tank and turned it on.
Right in front of me, he pulled out a lighter, his eyes bloodshot as he yelled, “The Rivers Family has completely abandoned me. Jessical

Family has completely abandoned me. Jessica took all my money and now you won’t come back to me either.”
“Living like this, barely surviving, is worse than being dead. Today, I’m taking you both with me to the grave. Even in the afterlife, you’ll still be mine–Thomas Rivers‘ woman!”
Clive immediately stepped in front of me, his body a shield. “Get out of here. Leave, now.”
I ignored everything around me and lunged forward to grab the lighter from Thomas’s hand, but I was a moment too late.
In an instant, flickers of blue and red flame engulfed the entire room.
Without a second thought, Clive shielded me with his body and rushed me out of the

house, ignoring the heat.
In that moment, I silently vowed that this man was the one.
The following spring, at my wedding with Clive, several senior members of the Rivers Family came to offer their blessings.
I stood beside Clive, offering a toast to each of them.
My former mother–in–law, a sentimental woman, looked at me, seeing how successful I was in both love and career. With tears in her eyes, she said, “Cheryl, Tommy didn‘ t value you because he wasn‘ t worthy of you.”
I smiled calmly. “It’s all in the past. How is he doing now?”
“Well, he’s in a nursing home. The doctors say he’ll never walk again, that he’ll be in a

wheelchair for the rest of his life.”
As my former mother–in–law spoke, her voice cracked and she was choked with emotion. My former father–in–law gently patted her hand before turning to me.
“That ungrateful son of ours… Lately, he’s been forgetting us, but he still keeps calling your name. He always holds on to your wedding ring, never letting anyone touch it.”
Seeing me furrow my brows, my former father–in–law quickly changed his tone. “Cheryl, I didn’t mean anything by it. It’s just… if it’s convenient for you, could you go visit him?”
I glanced at Clive across the room, smiling gently at me. Without thinking, I refused. “I’m sorry, but I’m about to go on our honeymoon with my husband overseas, so

“I’m sorry, but I’m about to go on our honeymoon with my husband overseas, so I’m afraid I won‘ t have the time.”
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, I walked straight toward the man whose heart and eyes were filled with nothing but me.
Surrounded by the warm blessings of everyone, we exchanged vows and completed our wedding ceremony, hands intertwined, ready to begin the next chapter of our journey together.
