He was furious. “What are you trying to do
now? I knew letting you make up for what you
did was a mistake!”
He poured the scalding water on my legs.
I tried to escape, but he pinned me down.
The water burned my skin, turning it red and
blistering.
I screamed in pain, pointing at Brittany. “His
sister isn’t in a coma! She’s faking it!”
But Brittany had closed her eyes again. Chad
smirked.
“Keep lying, and you’ll suffer the
consequences.
He dumped the rest of the water on me.
Then, he told me to get out.
The pain was nothing compared to the pain in
my heart.
I limped out of the room, the skin on my leg
peeling off like a snake.
People stared at me, keeping their distance.

I used the last of my strength to get to the
clinic.
The doctor gasped when she saw me. She quickly started treating the burns.
“I’ve never seen someone so tough. You
haven’t even cried.”
I didn’t tell her that I’d already cried all my
tears for Chad.
And I wouldn’t cry anymore.
After leaving the clinic, I messaged my
supervisor.
“I want to volunteer for the war zone. I want
く
to go back to the front lines and show the
world the truth with my camera!”
My supervisor responded quickly.
“This mission is high–risk. Do you want us to
help you get out of there?”
I agreed. In three days, my death would be all
over the news. I would disappear into the war
zone and collect information.
But Chad wasn’t done with me yet.
He found me packing my bags and threw
them in the trash.
“You haven’t made up for what you did. You
can’t just leave! Come back and take care of
Brittany!”
<
He started dragging me away.
I was emotionless. “You told me to get out.
Why are you angry now?”
“And aren’t you afraid I’ll hurt your sister
again?”
Chad panicked for a second, then quickly
composed himself.
He only answered my second question,
ignoring the first.
“I won’t let you hurt her.”
I was forced back in the room with Brittany.
Three days. Just three more days, and I’d say
L
goodbye to him forever.
But those three days wouldn’t be easy.
The day before I was supposed to leave, a crazy guy showed up at the hospital.
He had a knife and looked like he had lost his
mind.
“Where’s the damn doctor who screwed up
my mom?” he yelled.
Everyone ran away, afraid of getting hurt.
I frowned and tried to get away.
Suddenly, I felt a shove in my back.
I was shocked to see Chad pushing me
<
forward.
He pointed at me and yelled, “That’s her!
She’s the doctor!”
The next second, the guy stabbed me in the
stomach.
I looked down at the bloody hole in my belly.
Then, I fell to the ground.
The police grabbed the guy.
I thought I was going to die, but I didn’t.
I passed out. I heard Chad’s voice.
“I’m sorry. This is the only way to keep you
with me. I failed at the wedding, but this time
<
I succeeded.”
“Your uterus prolapsed, so you can’t have
kids. This is something all my wives must go through. That way, Brittany’s child will be the only heir to my fortune.”
I can’t have kids anymore…
A tear rolled down my cheek.
When Chad left, my eyes snapped open.
Chapter 2
I called my contact. “Okay, go time.”
What a coincidence, right after my call,
Brittany gave birth.
And woke up from her coma.
<
Chad was over the moon, and the media was
swarming like sharks to blood, all fighting to
get the story.
“A medical miracle! A woman in a coma
successfully gives birth!”
“Who cares if she’s an adopted sister? Love conquers all, even death!”
The reporters said they were a perfect, loving
couple. Chad just smiled and played along.
He held Brittany and the baby, acting like a
happy family.
But then, the reporters got some other news.

They all bolted out of Brittany’s room.
Chad grabbed one of them, demanding to
know what was going on.
The reporter looked genuinely sad.
“The war correspondent, the ‘Rose of the Battlefield,‘ died with honor. She passed away
in the room next to you.”
“We have to tell the world this tragic news.”
Chad’s face went white.
If he remembered correctly, I was in the room
next door.
“What was her name?”
<
“Lexi Miller.”
He ran out, and saw my body lying on the bed
covered by a white sheet.
He was in shock, stammering.
“I only told him to stab her in the uterus. How
could she die?”
He tried to get closer, but the cops stopped
him.
“Don’t disrespect a war hero.”
Chad was like a wild animal, he wasn’t
listening.
All he could think about was getting inside
and seeing if it was really me.
But he was no match for the trained cops.
He was quickly subdued, and he began to yell
in the direction of the room.
