“Cameron, why should I apologize to her? I told you, she started it! She should apologize to me, Christina whined, tears brimming in her eyes from the pain of Cameron’s grip on her arm.
“Dad smoothed it over for you after you splashed boiling water on someone. Do you have any idea how much he sacrificed. to get the Haney family to drop the charges?” Cameron glared at Christina, his tone filled with reprimand. “When you do something wrong. You have to face the consequences!
“Christina, if you don’t apologize, I won’t hesitate to bring this matter up again and have you spend a few more days at the police station!”

But instead, Yanina seemed completely indifferent, as if Christina’s apology was worthless. Christina clenched her fists, even more enraged than before.
Seeing this, Cameron released Yanina and led her toward Carl’s study.

Christina rubbed her bruised wrist and shot Yanina a resentful look as she walked away. “Grandpa always says you’re kind and magnanimous. What a joke!”
“You cling to every little grudge and won’t let go until I’m ruined Is that what you call kindness?” Christina sneered.
Cameron was about to rebuke her, but Yanina spoke first. “My kindness and generosity are for those who can acknowledge their mistakes and change.”

Christina was about to retort when a stern voice interrupted from upstairs. “What are you arguing about?” Carl’s authoritative tone echoed as he approached.
Seeing her grandpa speak, Christina didn’t dare confront Yanina any further and simply turned around and left.
“She’s becoming more and more disrespectfull” Carl scolded, watching Christina leave.
Yanina called out, “Grandpa.”
“Grandpa.” Cameron and Yanina greeted Carl at the same time.
“Come on up, Carl said, then turned and headed upstairs,
Cameron and Yanina followed, one after the other, into Carl’s study. They sat on opposite ends of the sofa, with a space wide enough for two people between them.
Carl looked at the two of them, frowning slightly. “Are you two having a disagreement?”
“No,” Yanina replied.
“No.” Once again, they spoke in unison.
Not wanting to linger on the subject, Yanina quickly changed the topic. “Grandpa, did you call us back for something?”
Carl glanced at the two of them before responding calmly. “Lately, I’ve often been dreaming about my fellow soldiers from my younger days,”
“Thinking back to the days on the battlefield, I watched those young lives fall one by one before my eyes. They entrusted their lives to me, and yet I couldn’t bring them back alive, Carl said, tears welling in his eyes. “I want to visit Southfort to pay my respects to them.
“I want to take you both there, so you’ll know the way. If one day I’m gone, you can go and visit them for me.
Yanina had never seen Carl look so frail, so weary. Her nose stung with emotion, and she quickly comforted him. “Grandpa, don’t worry. We’ll go this year, and next year we’ll go with you again. The year after that, and every year after, we’ll be by
