Chapter 7
Antonio didn’t
Antonio didn’t know where to find Grace, so he kept driving around Dangarnon.
He also bought back that house in the school district for twice the market price.
When Grace sold the house, she didn’t take the furniture, and the landlord left it all there.
Sleeping on that old bed that creaked when he laid down, Antonio felt kind of happy for some reason.
Everything here was still the same.
It was like Grace was still there.
This was where they had started their life together, bit by bit.
Antonio didn’t know where Grace had gone now, but he believed she would come back.
He couldn’t imagine her giving up on him and all these memories.
She would regret it.
And when that time came, all he had to do was wait for her a
home.
But at night, when he was all alone in bed, Antonio would always wake up from bad dreams.

In his dreams, Grace left with her suitcase, saying no to the old house and him.
Scared and angry, he punched the wall.
Antonio suddenly thought of something and called his friend at the hospital. “Next time Anna goes for a check–up, tell her I don’t want the baby.”
Six years ago, his parents had cornered him, begging him to give their family an heir.
That was when he got involved with Anna.
But he was foolish. With Carlo already around, why have a second kid?
He couldn’t live without Grace.
Now he had given his parents what they wanted. He’d send Anna child support every month, and that was the end of it.
But Anna didn’t see it that way. She showed up at his door that very afternoon.
Lately, Antonio hadn’t been around, and Anna was so anxious that she almost lost the baby a few times.
She finally managed to keep the pregnancy, but then she heard that Antonio didn’t want the baby anymore.
She cried her eyes out, tears streaming down her face. “Mr. Kaufman, what do you mean you want me to get rid of the baby?”
Antonio was quiet for a long time before he finally said, “I can’t give you the happiness you want.”

“I checked the lab cameras. I can ignore why Carlo had a
locked–up pill. You’re still young. Get rid of the baby, let my parents take care of Carlo, and I’ll send you abroad to start over.”
“No!” Anna hugged Antonio from behind. “Grace is gone. She left without looking back and she’s not coming back. But I have you and our son. How can I just leave?
“Let’s get married and start over, okay?”
Antonio pushed her away hard.
“Are you out of your mind? We got together because my parents drugged me, don’t you remember?
“I told you, we can never have a normal family like other people.”
Anna fell to the ground, and blood started flowing from her thigh.
Grace had woken up from her love dream a long time ago, but Anna was just waking up now.
Antonio could turn his back on his wife of twenty years, and he could do the same to her.
Ignoring Anna’s screams, Antonio kicked her out.
He didn’t want another woman in the home he had shared with Grace.
Otherwise, if Grace ever came back, she’d blame him.
