Once in Caroline’s room, Abigail took in the space. It was like a princess‘ chamber, every detail meticulously designed. Compared to the whole shabby decoration of this house, Caroline’s bedroom was a glaring contrast. The Yannis family had truly spoiled Caroline, lavishing her with all the best they could offer.
Lying on the soft bed, Abigail stared at the ceiling, her thoughts adrift.
She thought, “Marcus has been gone all day. Should I call him? He’s already returned.
How is Jaxson doing? As his stepmother, I suppose I must check–in.”
But Marcus lied to her about his true identity. She hesitated.

Chapter 112 Mrs. Fitzgerald
Meanwhile, at the Fitzgerald Villa in Veridon, the stark black–and–white room exuded an air of cold elegance.
Marcus sat at the bedside, his intense gaze fixed on Jaxson resting there.
After a moment, he let out a soft sigh, adjusted the blanket carefully, and brushed away the sweat clinging to Jaxson’s pale check.
Behind him stood a striking woman dressed in a form–fitting suit, silently watching him.
Witnessing Marcus‘ rare tenderness, her eyes sparkled with a hint of determination.
Breaking the silence, she said smoothly, “Mr. Fitzgerald, it’s late. Why don’t you rest? Jaxson’s stable now, no more complications tonight.”
Marcus frowned, giving her a cold, sharp look. “This morning, you said Jaxson’s issues were severe and suggested a specialized institution.” His tone was neutral, but his gaze was intense.
Mia quickly lowered her eyes, panic flashing across her face. Regaining her composure, she explained, “Sending Jaxson away was for his long–term health. But after the sedative, he’s stable tonight. You’ve come a long way and spent hours with him–I

don’t want you to overdo it.”
Marcus cut her off. “Ms. Grant, you can leave now.”

The dismissal felt like a slap. Mia’s heart sank, but she pressed. on. “Mr. Fitzgerald, I’m Jaxson’s psychologist. His condition’s been volatile, and it’s best if I stay to monitor him and prevent further incidents.”
Marcus‘ expression stayed unreadable, but his silence urged her to continue.
“You refused to send Jaxson to a special school earlier because you didn’t want him to feel abandoned, and you didn’t trust the staff there, right?” Mia probed, her voice laced with confidence. “If that’s the case, why not let me stay here? You know my credentials and dedication. All I want is for Jaxson to recover as soon as possible.”
But Mia’s motives had nothing to do with professional
dedication. Helping Jaxson heal was merely a stepping stone to her true goal–getting closer to Marcus and securing her place as Mrs. Fitzgerald.
Marcus didn’t immediately reject Mia. It wasn’t that he fully trusted her, but of all the psychologists Jaxson had seen, Mia had managed to stick around the longest. More importantly, Jaxson’s hostility toward her had noticeably softened in recent weeks. If she moved in, it would be a good solution.
Sensing an opportunity, Mia pressed her advantage. “Mr. Fitzgerald, why don’t I stay tonight? It’ll give me a chance to

Her voice was sweetly suggestive, and she threw Marcus a coy glance, her intentions thinly veiled. Inwardly, she cursed herself for not packing her most flattering sleepwear–had she been more prepared, she might have secured Marcus‘ heart and his bed tonight.
Still, Mia reminded herself to play the long game. Appear approachable but not too eager. A perfect balance of charm and restraint was key. Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the sudden ring of Marcus‘ phone.
Startled, she glanced over as Marcus moved with startling speed, answering the call without hesitation.
His demeanor shifted instantly. The icy detachment vanished, replaced by an unmistakable warmth. His voice, now gentle and low, carried a tenderness so disarming it took Mia aback. “Why are you still awake this late?” Marcus asked softly. “Were you thinking about me?”
Mia froze, stunned by the unexpected shift.
