Chapter 51 Mom Is Dying!
The next second, the aggressive man felt his fist being caught firmly by someone. With a deft move, the person effortlessly flung him aside. It was Abigail.
She shoved the man away and turned to look Troy over from head to toe. Concern flickered in her eyes as she asked, “Are you okay?” Troy, clutching his arm that had nearly been dislocated, eyed her warily and didn’t say a word.
The man, seeing that it was just a woman who had intervened, sneered. Tossing his cigarette aside, he tilted his head slightly and looked at Abigail with disdain. “Little girl, this brat stole my stuff and even had the nerve to push me. It’s only fair I settle the score. You’d better stay out of it unless you want trouble.”
Abigail stared at him coldly, stepping in front of Troy to shield him. Her stance made her position clear. “You say he stole from you. Got any proof?” she countered.
The man scowled, his glare growing more menacing. He snapped back, “This kid was standing right next to me earlier. I say he did it, so he did it. Unless… you’re his accomplice or something?”
Abigail let out a dry laugh. “He just came out of that office building in front,” she said, pointing casually. “And you came from the alley behind. He hasn’t even been near you. What’s he supposed to be, a magician? Stealing your stuff from across the

air?”

Her words struck a nerve, leaving the man speechless. He could. only glare at her with his bloodshot eyes, his anger simmering silently.
Unfazed, Abigail kept going. “Even if you’re trying to scam someone for cash, bullying a kid like this is low. Don’t you think?”
She paused deliberately, giving the man a once–over before letting a calculated look of alarm cross her face. “Actually… I just remembered the news. They said there’s a criminal targeting teenagers around here goes after kids walking alone. You wouldn’t happen to be…”
Abigail didn’t finish the sentence, but the implication hung in the air. Taking Troy’s hand, she subtly stepped back and raised her voice, addressing the bystanders. “Everyone, take some pictures and compare them to the news reports. Make sure to see if he’s the guy they mentioned. Better safe than sorry–we wouldn’t want him going after our kids next.”
The crowd, which had been quietly watching, perked up at her words. Murmurs rippled through the onlookers as they began whispering to each other. Someone even pulled out their phone to snap photos of the man.
The man’s eyes flared with fury, and he charged at Abigail with a snarl. “You foul–mouthed bitch… What kind of nonsense are you spewing? Let’s see if I don’t rip that lying mouth of yours to shreds!”

Before he could get too close, a burly bystander stepped in his way. “What the hell do you think you’re doing? Picking on a woman and a kid in broad daylight? Real tough guy, huh?”
With one person stepping up, more people started to close in. Someone said loudly, “Flying into a rage, huh? Could he actually be that criminal? Call the cops, now!”
Though the man wasn’t the fugitive everyone suspected, the mention of the police sent a jolt of fear through him. He pointed a shaky finger at Abigail, snarling, “You’ll pay for this. Just you wait!” With that, he spun on his heel and bolted, disappearing into the alley.
After chasing the man off, Abigail was about to speak to Troy when she felt his hand suddenly slip away from hers. Before she could say anything, he asked warily, “Why are you helping me?”
He mused, “Even my closest family members would rather kick me away the moment they see me. This woman has no connection to me whatsoever–why would she help me? Does she want something from me?”
Abigail wasn’t offended by his question. She understood that being cautious of others was a good thing. Since she had already stepped forward to help Troy, she was prepared to reveal her identity if needed.
But before she could say a word, Troy’s phone rang. His expression shifted instantly–from dark and guarded to visibly panicked. There was a flicker of fear and helplessness in his

eyes. Without warning, he shoved past her and bolted.
Seeing his reaction, Abigail grabbed his arm firmly. “Wait at second–what’s going on?”

“It’s none of your business. Let me go,” Troy snapped, his voice. urgent. The news he’d just heard over the phone made every second feel unbearable. If he could grow wings and fly back right now, he would.
Abigail refused to release him, her grip firm. “I don’t know
where you’re trying to go, but running like this won’t help. You’ll wear yourself out before you even get there,” she said, eyeing the traffic around them.
She thought, “If he keeps running like this in such a frantic state, who knows what might happen? He could get hit by a car or
worse.”
Troy’s despair deepened. His eyes were so bloodshot they looked like they could bleed. He wondered, “What do I do… What am I supposed to do?”
“Come with me,” Abigail said firmly, dragging him along. She flagged down a taxi at the side of the road and got them both.
inside.
Even after getting into the car, Troy was still tense, his body rigid like a coiled spring. He rubbed his face with one hand and gave the driver an address for the hospital.
Earlier, he’d been so frantic that he didn’t even think of hailing a

cab. But even remembering now didn’t case his anxiety–his family had already drained all their money trying to pay for
treatments.
When Abigail heard the word “hospital,” her expression changed slightly. “Do you have a family member who’s sick?”

“It’s my mom… She…” Troy pressed his fist against his lips and bit down hard, trying to suppress his emotions. But his voice cracked anyway, trembling with barely contained grief. “She’s dying.”
