Chapter 71 How Utterly Infuriating
The atmosphere in the hospital room was tense. Adela coughed weakly, propping herself up on the bed with trembling arms. Her gaze fixed sharply on Caroline. “Is what you just said true?”
She thought, “My biological daughter could really be someone else? Have I unknowingly raised another person’s child all these years? But if that’s the case, then where is my real daughter? Is she being raised by someone who cares for her?”
Adela’s face turned pale at the thought, and Troy immediately stepped between her and Caroline. “Let’s talk outside. Don’t upset Mom,” he pleaded.
He thought, “After all, Mom just had surgery. If the shock caused her condition to worsen…”
Caroline, however, had no intention of holding back. A singular thought consumed her: breaking free from this family.
She shoved Troy aside, her tone icy as she faced Adela. “Of course, it’s true. I’m not your biological daughter. And I’ve always hated you all. It’s your fault my life turned out this way.”
Adela’s body trembled violently at Caroline’s words, her hand clutching her chest as she coughed up a mouthful of blood. “Ahem…”
“Mom!”

Just then, Abigail rushed in from the hallway. She pushed past William and Troy, swiftly wrapping an arm around Adela and pulling out a bottle of emergency heart medication from her pocket. “Get me some water,” she ordered.
Troy reacted instantly, pouring a cup of warm water and handing it to her. Abigail fed the pill to Adela and helped her drink. Gradually, Adela’s face regained some color, and her labored breathing began to ease.
Abigail let out a sigh of relief. Luckily, her habit of carrying emergency medication from her high–stress job had paid off. Once she was sure Adela was stable, Abigail turned to face Caroline. Her gaze was cold and piercing, carrying a sharpness that made Caroline instinctively take a step back.
“What are you doing?” Caroline stammered.
A slap landed hard on Caroline’s cheek, so fast and forceful it left her stunned. Caroline froze, clutching her face in disbelief, her eyes wide with shock.
“That slap was for Mrs. Yannis,” Abigail said icily. “Twenty years of raising you, and this is how you repay her? You deserved it.”

exuding menace. Though clearly terrified, Caroline tried to sound tough, her voice shaking as she threatened, “If you dare. hit me again, I’ll…”
Another slap landed squarely on the other side of Caroline’s face. “That one was for Mr. Yannis,” Abigail declared, her voice sharp and unyielding. “He gave you everything, yet you spread rumors that he favors sons over you and abuses you? Shame on you.”
In just a few seconds, Abigail had delivered two merciless slaps. Caroline’s face swelled instantly, red and puffed up like a balloon. Her eyes burned with seething hatred, but she could do nothing about it.
The Yannis family members had been too shocked to react at first, but after hearing Abigail’s words, their initial instinct to intervene vanished. This punishment was well–deserved.
“I’ll kill you!” Caroline shrieked and swung her handbag at Abigail.
Abigail dodged effortlessly, grabbed Caroline’s wrist, and delivered yet another slap. “This one’s for me,” Abigail said coldly. “For stealing my fiancé and ruining my career. You’re shameless.”
Caroline completely lost it. Knowing she couldn’t fight back, she clenched her fists and screamed like a madwoman, “Abigail! How dare you do this to me? I’ll tell Dad and Mom. Just wait- you’ll be kicked out of Claudia.”

Abigail sneered, her expression filled with disdain. “You think I’m scared of your little threats?” she said with a mocking smile. “Want me to call a cab for you so you can run off and tattle?”
Caroline trembled with rage at Abigail’s taunting gaze. “You listen to me,” Abigail continued, her tone icy and measured. “I’m no longer part of the Winchester family. Do you really think they can do anything to me now?”
Caroline was at a loss for words, her chest heaving with fury. She was livid. She couldn’t out–argue Abigail, and she certainly couldn’t outfight her. How utterly infuriating.
