Adela was the first to welcome Abigail warmly. William and Troy, though initially stunned, quickly came to their senses. “Abigail, come live with us,” Troy urged, his voice cager. “We’re family. We should be together.”
William nodded in agreement. “Exactly. We’ve missed so many years. We can’t let you suffer anymore.”
Hearing their words, Abigail’s heart softened. She thought, “So, this is what it feels like to be doted on by family? It isn’t bad- actually, it feels pretty nice. Maybe I should change my surname to Yannis. Abigail Yannis? It has a nice ring to it.”
But then another thought hit Abigail. She thought, “I’m married now. If I were to change my last name, shouldn’t it be Fitzgerald instead? Besides, I’d already gotten used to my current name.”
Lost in her thoughts, Abigail didn’t notice the Yannis family waiting for her response.
Adela, misinterpreting her silence as dissatisfaction, quickly added, “If you don’t want to live with us, that’s okay. We can help you get a place of your own. We’ll cover the down payment, and you won’t need to worry about the mortgage. We’ll take care
of it.”
Abigail’s eyes widened in shock. She knew the Yannis family was barely managing in their cramped 650–square–foot apartment.

Adela’s recent surgery had drained much of their savings, and the 50 thousand dollars William had offered her earlier was likely all they had left. Yet, here they were, willing to buy her at house.
Seeing her stunned expression, Adela seemed to realize her offer might sound overly ambitious. But she had thought it through and doubled down. “We don’t have much cash left, but I still have my wedding gift. If I sell it, it should cover a decent–sized down payment here in Claudia.”
Not only Abigail but even Troy was taken aback. “Mom, you wouldn’t even sell them when you were seriously ill. You can’t sell it now. We’ll figure out another way,” he protested, clearly distressed.
Adela’s gaze softened. “These are meant for your sister from the start…” She trailed off, then resolutely took Abigail’s hand. “We’ve wronged you all these years. Selling them is nothing if it means you can live comfortably.”
Facing Adela’s unwavering sincerity, Abigail felt a warmth rise within her. She gently squeezed Adela’s hand and smiled softly, “I don’t mean to reject your kindness or imply I don’t want to live with you. It’s just… I’m married now and live with my husband.”
The Yannis family was stunned. They thought, “Hasn’t she said Caroline had stolen her fiancé? How is she suddenly married?”
Troy’s eyes widened as a wild thought crossed his mind. His

voice rose in alarm. “You didn’t marry that peacock guy from the hospital yesterday, did you?!”
“Peacock guy?” Abigail asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion. She thought, “Is he referring to Felix?”
“The one in the flashy shirt with his nose in the air, acting like he owned the place,” Troy replied matter–of–factly.
Abigail couldn’t help but chuckle. She thought, “It’s Felix. Peacock guy? Honestly, it’s pretty spot–on.”
Seeing her laugh, Troy assumed he’d hit the nail on the head. “Abigail, why? He might look okay, but he’s not good enough for you. Why would you marry him?”
William and Adela exchanged worried looks, their initial impressions of Felix less than favorable. A flashy, arrogant, rich kid didn’t seem like an ideal partner for Abigail.
Abigail quickly waved her hands to dispel their
misunderstanding. “No. I didn’t marry him. I married his
uncle.”
Felix had to greet Marcus politely as “Uncle,” while Abigail got to enjoy being his auntie. The thought of it made Abigail feel immensely satisfied.
“Uncle?” The Yannis family froze.
They thought, “If Felix is in his twenties, then his uncle has to be forty or fifty?” Troy stared in shock, his brain struggling to

Adela’s face immediately fell. Tears welled up in her eyes as she assumed the worst. “Abigail, how could they do this to you? Did they force you to marry an old man?”
She thought, “That Winchester family really is heartless, using Abigail’s marriage to further their interests.”
