Chapter 83

ROSALIE

The room was quiet except for the soft sound of fabric rustling in my hands. I pushed the needle through the blue material, my fingers moving on their own. But my mind wasn’t on the scarfI was too lost in my thoughts

It had been a week. A whole week since Damien had told me about his family demanding a divorce. Seven days of silence between us, of stolen glances and unspoken words. Seven days of pretending I wasn’t waiting for him to come home and say

it’s over

This was what I had been waiting for, wasn’t it? From the very beginning. I knew our marriage was built on obligation, not love. I had prepared myself for this day since the moment I said I do. I had always told myself that the moment I was given an out, I’d take it without hesitation

Yet here I was, hesitating

The needle jammed as I lost focus, and I quickly lifted my foot off the pedal, sighing. My hands trembled slightly as I reached up to rub my temple

Why? Why wasn’t I grabbing onto this chance with both hands

Because you’re falling for him

I shook my head, pushing the thought away. No. That wasn’t it. It couldn’t be

I wasn’t in love with Damien Hale

my

The only reason I didn’t want this divorce was because of family’s honor. Yes, that was it. A messy separation would ruin them. My father’s company was already tangled up with Damien’s. If I left now, if I walked away with nothing, what would happen to my family’s reputation

That’s all it is, I told myself. That’s all it ever will be

Still, even as I repeated the words in my head, my chest felt tight, like something inside me was trying to fight against the lie

I let out a deep breath and turned off the sewing machine. Sitting around here, overthinking, wasn’t helping. I needed to clear my head

Charlotte

I hadn’t

my sister in a while. A visit to her place would do me some good

I stood up, brushing my hands over my dress before heading downstairs. Margaret and Maria were in the kitchen, finishing up what I assumed was dinner prep

Margaret noticed me first. Madam, would you like anything?”

I shook my head. I’m going out for a bit.”

Maria turned to me. Should we inform the driver?”

No, I’ll take my car,” I said. If Damien comes back before I do, let him know I went to

see Charlotte.”

Margaret and Maria exchanged a quick glance, but neither of them argued

Yes, madam,Margaret said, giving me a small nod

Chapter 83

I turned on my heel and walked toward the front door, grabbing my purse on the way out

As I stepped outside, the cool evening air brushed against my skin. I made my way to my car, slid into the driver’s seat, and started the engine

With one last look at the house behind me, I pressed my foot against the gas pedal and drove off

CHARLOTTE

Liam stood near the window, as casual as ever, while I sat stiffly on the couch, arms crossed. No matter how many times I warned him, he still acted like we had nothing to worry about

You need to stop coming here like this,I said, arms crossed as I watched Liam lean lazily against the window

He smirked, completely unbothered. And why is that, Charlotte? Afraid someone will catch us?”

I let out an annoyed sigh. Of course, I am! You think you’re being discreet, but you’re not. You can’t just walk in and out of my house whenever you feel like it.”

Liam chuckled, shaking his head. Relax. If your father or mother were around and saw me here, they’d assume it business. Damien has control over your father’s company. Any meeting between us would look like I’m here for work, nothing more.”

I shook my head. That’s not the point. Just because we have a cover doesn’t mean we should be careless.”

Liam finally turned to face me fully, amusement still flickering in his dark eyes. You worry too much.”

And you don’t worry enough,” I shot back. Damien is already watching me closely. The last thing I need is him growing suspicious.”

He rolled his eyes and pushed away from the window. Well, maybe this will put you in a better mood.”

I raised a brow. What?”

Liam’s lips curled into a knowing smirk as he took slow, deliberate steps toward me. Damien’s family is forcing him to divorce Rosalie.”

I blinked. For a moment, I just stared at him, processing his words. Then, a slow smile crept onto my face. Say that again.Liam’s smirk widened. You heard me. His family finally came to their senses and told him to end it.”

I let out a short, delighted laugh. Oh, this is just perfect!”

Liam chuckled. I thought you’d like that.”

Like it?I scoffed. Liam, this is the best thing I’ve heard all week. No, all year!”

He took a seat on the couch, stretching his arms behind his head. I knew it would make you happy. And here I was, thinking you’d be too caught up in your paranoia to appreciate good news.”

I ignored the jab, too pleased to be bothered by it. I knew this marriage wouldn’t last. Damien was always too stubborn for his own good, but even he can’t fight his entire family forever. Eleanor must be thrilled.”

Liam nodded. Oh, she is. She’s been pushing for this from the start. Rosalie never stood a chance against her.”

She never stood a chance against any of us,” I said, shaking my head. She never belonged in our world. She’s weak. She doesn’t have the status, the connections, or the strength to be a Hale

Chapter 83

Liam hummed in agreement. I don’t know what Damien saw in her to begin with.”

23%止

Guilt,I said simply. Or maybe he just liked the idea of rebelling against his family for once. But it doesn’t matter now. He’s finally realizing the truth.”

Liam smirked. You sound almostvictorious.”

I leaned back on the couch, a satisfied smile on my face. Because I am. I told Damien from the start that she wasn’t right for him. I told him this marriage would be a disaster. And now? He’s learning that the hard way.”

Liam shook his head, laughing under his breath. You really don’t like her, do you?”

I scoffed. What’s there to like? She’s nothing special. Just a pretty face with no backbone.”

Liam studied me for a moment before chuckling. Remind me never to get on your bad side.”

I smirked. You wouldn’t be that stupid.”

Liam stood, stretching lazily. Well, I’d love to stay and bask in your victory, but I should get going.”

I followed him to the door, still smiling. Make sure you keep me updated.”

Of course,he said, flashing me a wink

Everything was finally falling into place

Liam pulled the door open-

And then he froze

A second later, my stomach dropped

Rosalie stood there, staring at us, her face frozen in shock
