Chapter 87
CHARLOTTE
I wasn’t going to sit around and wait.

Waiting was for weak, passive women like Rosalie–women who cried themselves to sleep and hoped things would magically change in their favor. That wasn’t me. If I wanted something, I went after it. And right now, I wanted Damien to see reason.
The past few days had been… interesting, to say the least. My conversation with Eleanor had gone exactly as I planned. She saw things my way now. She understood that Rosalie was nothing more than a disgrace to this family, a burden to Damien, a mistake that needed to be erased. But Damien–Damien was still being stubborn. And I couldn’t allow that.
I needed to get inside his head.
The divorce was inevitable, but if I played my cards right, I could make it happen faster. I could push him just enough to make him let go completely. And when he did, I would be right there to remind him who his real match had always been.
I picked up a file from my desk–something insignificant from my father’s company, nothing urgent, but enough to serve as an excuse. It wasn’t as if I needed one; I had walked into Damien’s office countless times before. But today, I wanted to approach things strategically. If I came in like I had business to discuss, he’d have no choice but to at least listen to me for a
minute.
1 smirked to myself.
Damien had always been so predictable. So easy to rile up. And if there was one thing I was an expert at, it was getting under
his skin.
Grabbing my purse, I made my way out, my heels clicking sharply against the floor. As I stepped into my car, I glanced at my reflection in the rearview mirror.
Perfect. As always.
1 wasn’t just going there to talk. I was going there to remind Damien of what he had lost–what he could still have if he “stopped being so blind.
By the time I arrived at his office building. I was more than ready. Ready to plant more seeds of doubt in his mind. Ready to remind him that he and Rosalie had always been a mistake. Ready to watch the last of his patience snap.
And if I had to push a little harder, well–so be it.
I walked into Damien’s office building with confidence, the sharp clicks of my heels echoing against the sleek marble floors. The receptionist barely glanced up before waving me through–I was a familiar face here.
As I approached the glass doors leading to the conference room, I could see Damien inside, wrapping up a meeting. His expression was sharp, his brows furrowed as he listened to one of the men seated at the table.
I stepped inside just as the man finished speaking.
“…so if we adjust the numbers for the next quarter, we should be able to avoid any major losses,” the man concluded. Damien sighed, rubbing his temple. “Fine. Send me the revised projections by the end of the day. We’ll reassess then.”
The meeting was over. The executives stood, murmuring quiet goodbyes as they filtered out. I stepped aside, offering them a polite smile as they passed, but my eyes remained fixed on Damien.
He hadn’t looked at me yet, but the moment the last person left, he did. And the exhaustion in his expression turned into something sharper–annoyance.

I placed the tie down on his desk, ignoring his glare. “You look stressed,” I mused, my tone light. “Marriage problems?”

That made him react. His eyes snapped to mine, cold and sharp. “What did she tell
I shrugged toying with the edge of the file. “Just that things aren’t going well. That your family hates her. That she’s been

Damien’s hands clenched into fists. “Get out, Charlotte.”
I laughed softly. “Why are you still holding on, Damien? You and I both know this marriage was doomed from the start. You should just get it over with–divorce her and be with someone who actually belongs at your side.”
Ha expression darkened. “And let me guess–you think that’s you?”
I met his gaze, unflinching “Who else?”
Damien let out a bitter chuckle, shaking his head. “You’re insane.”
I folded my arms. “Oh, come on, Damien. You and I both know I was always the better option. But no–you had to be stubborn. You had to fight for Rosalie, had to prove everyone wrong. I leaned in slightly, lowering my voice. “Look where that got you?
Damien’s body tensed, his eyes burning with anger.
I smiled. “Rosalie will never be fit to be your wife. She never had the class, the intelligence, the strength for this life. She’s weak, Damien. Pathetic. And if you keep clinging to her, you’ll drown right along with her
Before I could blink, Damien was in front of me, gripping my arm. His hold was tight–tight enough that I gasped slightly.
“Shut. Up.” His voice was dangerously low.
I smirked. “Did I hit a nerve?”

second, Damien was dragging me toward the door.
I barely had time to protest before he shoved me out of his office and slammed the door in my face.

I stood there for a moment, stunned, before a slow smirk formed on my lips.
So, I had gotten under his skin. Good.
I turned to leave, but before I could take a step. I heard a familiar voice behind me.
“Well, that was embarrassing.
I turned to see Melanie standing a few feet away, arms crossed, an amused smirk playing on her lips.
I narrowed my eyes. “Mind your own business.”
Melanie chuckled, stepping closer. “Oh, but it is my business. I just watched Damien throw you out of his office like a pir of trash.” She tilted her head, pretending to look sympathetic. “That must hurt.”
I clenched my jaw. “Don’t be so smug, Melanie. Things change.”
She raised a brow. “Oh? And what exactly do you think is going to change? Do you really believe Damien will ever want you?” She let out a laugh, shaking her head. “You’re trying too hard, Charlotte. It’s pathetic.”
Anger flared in my chest. As she turned to leave, I grabbed her wrist, yanking her back.
Melanie’s eyes darkened. “Let go of me.”
I smirked. “You can mock me all you want now, but soon, I’ll be in a position so high above you, you won’t even be able to breathe in the same space as me.” I leaned in, lowering my voice. “And it’ll be Damien who puts me there.”
Melanie yanked her hand free, rolling her eyes. “Empty threats.” She gave me one last amused glance before walking away
I stood there, seething, my nails digging into my palm.
Let her laugh now.
She wouldn’t be laughing for long-
