I scoffed. I glanced at Lu Ming, then smiled.
“Chen Yun, what kind of fantasy are you
living in? I said I’m marrying someone else.
We’re getting our marriage license today. If
you don’t believe me, come and see.
I hung up.
وو
That afternoon, Lu Ming and I went to the
civil affairs bureau with smiles on our faces
and got our marriage license. As we left, Lu
Ming held my hand tightly, and we exchanged
smiles. Then, a voice cut through the air.
“Su Qianqian, what are you doing?”
Chen Yun stared, incredulous, at our clasped
hands. I sneered, tightening my grip on Lu
Ming’s hand.
“As you can see, this is my new husband, Lu
Ming.”
Lu Ming raised our hands, flaunting them in
Chen Yun’s face.
Chen Yun was furious. His pupils dilated, but
he still couldn’t believe it. His lips trembled.
“No, this can’t be true! You can’t marry Lu
Ming! Don’t you know he’s my rival?”
He lunged forward, trying to pull me away. “Su Qianqian, you must be lying, right? I know
you still love me! Why would a heiress like
you put up with years of hardship with me? You’re carrying my child! I’m the father! You
wouldn’t marry someone else!”
I scoffed, recoiling from him. I pulled out our
marriage certificate from my bag and held it
out, mirroring how he’d once presented me
with a card.
“Look closely. Lu Ming and I are legally
married. He’s the father of my child. He’s the
only father that child will ever know. You, the
man who abandoned us, have no claim to
him.”
Chen Yun’s lips trembled as he looked at the
marriage certificate. He finally believed it. His
く
face went pale, and he collapsed to the
ground, sobbing.
“How could this happen? Su Qianqian, how
could you abandon me? Why Lu Ming? How
could you hurt me like this? How could you let
my child call him ‘Dad‘? How could you let my
child call a stranger ‘father‘?!”
He was inconsolable. I felt nothing. I carefully
put away the marriage certificate and smiled
at Lu Ming.
“Let’s go. Our parents are waiting.
وو
After getting our marriage license, we quickly
prepared for the wedding. News of our
marriage to the various prominent families drew mockery. People scoffed at the Lu
family’s extravagant wedding, mocking them
for marrying a pregnant woman. Some
tabloids even defamed me, calling me
promiscuous. But those articles disappeared
overnight. Lu Ming had handled it quietly,
using some unknown method to silence the
media and force apologies from those who’d
mocked me.
My father was pleased. “Lu Ming’s a good
son–in–law, responsible and decisive. You
made the right choice!” he exclaimed. “Too
bad he’s infertile. Otherwise, a man this good
wouldn’t be ‘picked up‘ by our family! But
that’s probably why he’ll genuinely care for
you and the baby…”
A bitter taste lingered, but it quickly passed.
Our wedding was held five days later, a grand
affair attended by prominent families and
reputable journalists. The media hailed it as a
“wedding of the century.” Everyone offered
their blessings, except for one person: Chen
Yun.
I hadn’t invited him, but he showed up
anyway, standing in the middle of the road,
stopping our wedding car. I had to get out.
He held up a diamond ring, kneeling, gazing
at me with sincerity.
“Su Qianqian! You can’t marry Lu Ming! No
man would willingly marry a woman carrying
another man’s child, especially someone he
despises. He’s only marrying you for revenge!
You can’t marry him! I’m your best choice! I’m
the man you love, and your child’s father!
Marry me, Su Qianqian.”
He spoke passionately, his expression
sincere. My fingers tightened.
It wasn’t Chen Yun’s proposal that made me
hesitate, but his words – doubts I’d held.
Initially, marrying Lu Ming was about revenge,
but my feelings for him had grown
complicated.
I opened my mouth to speak, but Lu Ming
appeared behind me. He’d gone to a florist to replace my bouquet, and he’d returned
quickly. He put his arm around me, glaring at
L
Chen Yun.
