- 11.
Two years later, my daughter, Lily, was born.
Alex said she had my eyes.
At Lily’s first birthday party, I saw Ethan
standing outside the hotel, watching me
through the window. He looked lost, a single
tear tracing a path down his cheek in the
sunlight.

I ignored him, focusing on my guests. Alex,
sensing my fatigue, took my hand. “Are you
tired? Do you want to go upstairs and rest? I
can handle things down here.”
I leaned against him. “I’m fine. Just need a
little recharge.”
He chuckled, and we held each other close
until my father called Alex away to check on
Lily. As I went upstairs, I noticed Ethan was
gone. I didn’t know when he’d left, and I
didn’t care. I was happy. Truly happy.
