Inside the hospital room, Debra stirred back to consciousness. She half–sat on the bed, her body bruised and battered.
Drake stormed in, startling the nurse inside. “The patient is resting. You can’t just…”
“Get out!” Drake growled.
The director, standing in Drake’s shadow, quickly waved the nurse away. “Hurry, leave.”
Recognizing Drake, the nurse turned pale and hurriedly exited the room.
Debra, frustration mingling with her weak voice, said, “I’m lying here in this condition. Can’t you give me a moment of peace?”
“You need to explain what happened today.”
“What? I almost died. If you want answers, go ask Miss Sharp.”
“You’re saying Yvonne did this?”
“She had someone crash into our car and pour gasoline on it. If it weren’t for a passing vehicle, I wouldn’t have been so lucky to escape, I might have ended up like Harland.”
Debra shuddered at the thought of Yvonne’s method. She seemed well–versed in killing and making it look like an accident.
It couldn’t be her first kill, and the Sharp family’s facade of respectability was crumbling
fast.
Suddenly, Drake surged forward and grabbed her arm. She instinctively tried to pull away, but his grip was too tight.
He inspected her arm and yanked the blanket off her. Startled, Debra slapped him across. the face.
“What are you doing?” she shouted, the room freezing in silence.
Drake rubbed his cheek, his expression a mix of shock and annoyance. Debra realized her impulsive reaction.
“It wasn’t my fault. Your actions took me by surprise.”
“If it weren’t for the fact that you’re injured, I’d have hit you back.”

“This whole mess was undeserved. If you and Yvonne hadn’t had that falling out tonight, I wouldn’t have been in that car accident, and Harland wouldn’t have died.”

Drake was rendered speechless. He tossed the blanket back over Debra and muttered,” Your injuries are superficial. I’ll have Kale take you home later.”
“No. Who knows if he’s working with Yvonne and leaked my whereabouts?”
By mentioning Yvonne’s knowledge of her location, Debra was reminding Drake of a possible mole among them. Otherwise, Yvonne wouldn’t have been able to ambush her on that road.
