Drake nodded in agreement, and Debra breathed a sigh of relief.
She couldn’t believe he had fallen for her lies. He might be cunning with his enemies, but he was gullible when it came to women.
Not even Cathryn would believe such a lie.
“Alright, I’ll take your word for it,” Drake said, tossing her a small vial.
Debra saw a red pill inside the vial. She remembered what Andrew had told her about this new type of drug, sold as red pills that looked like candy to avoid suspicion.
Drake watched her closely. “But I’m still not entirely convinced. What if your withdrawal symptoms disappear and everything you just said was a lie? Take the pill in front of me, and I’ll believe you.”
Debra remained calm, quickly formulating a plan. “You injected me with the drug yourself. You should know better than anyone that it’s not even been a month. No one could cure my addiction.”
Drake leaned back, resting his chin on his hand. “I know the dosage I gave you, but I still need to see you take it. After all, Marion injected me with drugs too. I need a little revenge to feel satisfied.”
Debra agreed, “Fine, I’ll take it. But you can’t watch it.”
“Why not?” Drake asked, puzzled.
“Because your drug is too strong,” she explained with feigned shyness. “Every time I take it, I go crazy and get so hot that I take off my clothes. You can’t be in my room if that happens. You wouldn’t want to take advantage of me, would you?”
Drake looked uncomfortable, his gaze shifting away. “As long as you take it, I won’t watch
it.”
Debra quickly hid the red pill in her sleeve when Drake wasn’t looking. She then took a piece of candy from her ring and placed it in her palm.
“Fine, I’ve taken this pill several times already. One more won’t make a difference. But remember, you have to supply me with the pills on time. Don’t use them to torture me.”
“Deal,” Drake agreed, watching as Debra pretended to swallow the pill.
Debra noticed his scrutiny and played along. “Aren’t you leaving? Do you want to see me undress, Mr. Lowe?”
Drake’s face darkened. “Mrs. Houston, you overestimate yourself, and I’m not that desperate.”

Outside, Kale asked, “Boss, did you test her?”
“I watched her take the pill. There’s no way she didn’t react. Have Lara keep an eye on her. If anything seems off, let me know immediately.”
“Yes, boss.”
As Drake was about to leave, Kale suddenly called out, “Boss.”
“What is it?”
“Your face is flushed. Are you feeling alright?”
