After getting off the plane, I had dozens of missed calls on my phone.
There were also several messages from my assistant, telling me that Derek had brought his whole family to make a scene outside my company building, even attracting media attention.
Seeing me frown, Alex directly snatched the phone away.
He walked aside and gave some instructions, then told me, “Leave these troublesome things to me to handle next time.”
Although it was a brief sentence, it still made my heart flutter uncontrollably.
It’s worth noting that after marrying Derek, I had to personally handle many things at home.
There were several times when I had a high fever and wanted Derek to accompany me to the hospital, but he was either on a business trip or claimed to be too tired, telling Mrs. Wilson to go with me instead.
Even regarding the fact that we still didn’t have children, I had asked him many times to go to the hospital with me for a check–up, but he always made excuses about having too much work at the company and no time.
The label of infertility had been on my head for a long time, but my annual gynecological examinations always showed no problems.
I had carefully nurtured Derek’s emotions, only to end up like this. I felt very resentful.
After landing in Singapore, Alex took me to meet several well–known designers, and we reached an initial cooperation agreement.
Back home, Derek’s family was still causing trouble these two days, even putting me on social media trending topics.
I didn’t see these trending topics, probably because Alex had taken care of it in time, but I had instructed my assistant to inform me of any developments.
After the business was settled, I treated Alex to dinner.
He bought me a bouquet of lisianthus. When I saw the flowers, I was stunned again.
Alex curiously asked me, “What’s wrong?”
I smiled and replied, “You might find it funny, but for the past few years, the flowers Derek sent me on every anniversary were pink roses.”
I had told him that I liked lisianthus, but he always sent the wrong ones.
Seeing that Alex, whom I hadn’t seen in years, still remembered my preferences, I realized it wasn’t that Derek couldn’t remember, it was that he didn’t want to take it to heart.
The capacity of a heart is limited, and he just didn’t want to spare any for me.
That night, I drank a lot of alcohol for the first time in a long while.
Derek had always wanted children, and after marriage, his requirements for me were very high. I hadn’t tasted alcohol for a long time.
After Alex sent me back to my room, he seemed to whisper something in my ear, but I was in a daze and wasn’t sure if I had heard correctly.
The matters in River City hadn’t been fully resolved yet. My parents contacted me and told me to stay in Singapore for a few more days to
relax.
As Alex wasn’t very busy either, we decided to stay.
After our marriage, he had studied in Singapore for two years and was familiar with everything.
He took me to the campus where he did his master’s degree, took me to many niche markets where I found many Interesting little trinkets.
Every time, it was Alex who paid. When I asked him why he wouldn’t let me spend money, he said, “How can I let my sister spend money when we go out together? People would laugh at me if they found out.”
But I remembered that night when I was drunk, Alex didn’t call me sister when he whispered in my ear.
We stayed in Singapore for seven days. Every day we would sleep until late morning, then Alex would take me out for lunch, followed by shopping and seeing the sea, playing until midnight before returning.
During these seven days, I felt unprecedentedly relaxed and also figured out many things.
It would be a lie to say I wasn’t hurt. In every deep night, I would ask myself the question Alex had asked me, “Do you regret it?”
I knew what he was referring to. A week later, I gave him my answer.
“I don’t regret it, because no one knew all this would happen. If I could do it all over again, I would still make the same choice.”
He gently stroked my hair, sighed, and said, “Okay, as long as you don’t regret it.”
Derek went to make trouble at my company every day, still refusing to sign the divorce agreement. Left with no choice, I had to resort to the
court.
Derek’s family had no savings in hand. After being kicked out, the three of them could only squeeze into a small hotel to live.
I heard that Chloe was beaten badly by Derek, severely injured, and miscarried on the spot.
After that, Derek never went to the hospital to see Chloe again. Because he had no money, he even asked her to return the gifts he had given her.
Chloe was so angered that she went crazy in the hospital and was diagnosed with a mental illness and locked up.
My divorce case with Derek went to court half a month later. Because of the substantial evidence provided by my side, Derek was judged to leave with nothing and compensate me five million dollars.
That five million was the money he had misappropriated from my company after deducting his salary.
After the court adjourned, Derek went crazy and shouted at me, “Lily, you don’t lack this bit of money, why are you forcing me?”
I didn’t look back at him and left directly.
This farce, at the moment of the verdict, finally came to an end.
Alex was waiting for me outside the door. Today was his birthday.
I knew he was preparing a surprise for me.
At the birthday party, he proposed to me on one knee in front of everyone, but I didn’t accept.
I took his ring and told him, “It takes time to empty one’s heart. I hope you can wait for me:
He hugged me tightly and said the same words as that night, “Lily, I’ve been waiting for you so hard.”
