Chapter 10
I reached out to a friend in the media business. With her connections, we edited the recording of Louise‘ s phone call and posted it on a popular social media platform.
Louise’s self–crafted image as
“America’s sweetheart” crumbled
within minutes. The recording spread like wildfire, gathering thousands of views and comments as people realized she had knowingly broken up a marriage. The public fallout was immediate, with fans denouncing her and the hashtag #LouiseExposed trended across multiple platforms.
Critics questioned my motives, some even suggesting that I had edited the recording. I ignored them. Adam‘ s mother, Louise, had evidently decided to act as well and soon, the media was flooded with stories exposing Louise‘ s darker side: animal

cruelty, on–set bullying and even rumors of an affair with a married director. Louise
had clearly been waiting for the perfect moment to ruin Louise‘ s reputation.
For safety, I moved in with a friend and set up a security camera at the door.
Unable to reach me by phone, Louise turned up at my apartment, her erratic behavior fully captured on camera. She appeared deranged, hacking at my front door with a kitchen knife, screaming obscenities for me to come out.
Neighbors were horrified and called the police, who arrived promptly to disarm and arrest her. By evening, her mugshot was plastered online, fueling further
speculation that she might be involved with drugs.
At the police station, I explained everything, showing them the camera
footage and insisting calmly that as long as she paid for the damages, I would not press charges.

When the officers informed her of this, Louise only laughed, deranged and defiant, her eyes fixed on me. “Claire! You‘ re the one who made me like this! Don’t you dare act like the victim!”
I sighed, looking toward the officers.
“You’ve seen the news. She‘ s clearly unwell; she needs help more than anything.”
Louise shrieked, “I’m not sick! Claire, I’ll get you for this–you‘ ll pay for what you‘ ve done!”
Since she had not injured anyone, they let her off with a stern warning.
I waited outside the station, watching as she stormed out, her former poise shattered. As she caught sight of me, her face twisted with rage. “I won’t let you get away with this!” she spat.
I stepped back, my tone calm. “The way you are now? It’s exactly what you deserve, Louise. The crazier you get, the

better I feel.”
I turned to walk away, throwing one last parting line over my shoulder. “What you owe my mother–you‘ ll pay it all back.”
Behind me, she cursed and shrieked, her hands clenching into fists.
Just as I reached the street, I heard her scream and turned to see her hurling a rock in my direction.
In a flash, someone jumped between us, pulling me into an embrace and taking the impact. It was Adam.
