Chapter 12
My friend leaned in, lowering his voice as he continued. “You know, all those rumors about Louise? Apparently, the family was behind them, pushing the story out so it‘ d spread faster. They wanted her to suffer.”
I shook my head, not surprised. “Sounds like them.”
He nodded, lowering his voice. “Adam‘ s mother, Mrs. Foster, even paid Louise a visit, just to see her squirm. She must have pushed too hard, though–Louise snapped and attacked her, stabbing her a dozen times with a fruit knife.”
I blinked in shock, hardly able to believe it. I knew Mrs. Foster had a sharp tongue, but for Louise to go that far…
“They say she was screaming like a maniac,” he continued. “The police had to wrestle her down while Mrs. Foster was

rushed to the hospital.”
Thankfully, Mrs. Foster survived, though she remained in a coma. The doctors believed she might never wake up.
The Foster Family retaliated swiftly, hiring top lawyers to make sure Louise paid for the attack. In the end, she was sentenced to life in prison for attempted murder.
A mix of emotions swirled within me relief, satisfaction and, strangely, peace. I had spent so long waiting for justice and now, it had finally arrived.
The next day, I took the day off to visit my mother‘ s grave.
In the quiet of the cemetery, I sat down beside her headstone, tracing the engraved letters of her name. The morning sun bathed the stone in a soft, warm glow.
I smiled, feeling her presence close by. “Mom… did you see what happened?”
The wind was silent, but I continued,

speaking as though she were there beside
