Chapter 5
Camilla clung to Asher, feigning innocence but keeping his attention firmly on her. At one point, she even shot me a triumphant, mocking glance. Shaking my head, I motioned to the movers to hurry.
Just minutes later, I was following them downstairs with my things. Asher heard the door close and came running down after me, not even bothering to change out of his slippers.
“Avery, you’re still pregnant! Where do you think you’re going?”
I ignored him. Frustrated, he punched the wall, laughing bitterly. “You can storm off all you want. You’ll be back soon enough, tail between your legs!”
He raised his voice, “Let’s see how long you can hold out before you come crawling back to me!”
Then he turned to Camilla. “Come on,

Camilla, let’s go.‘
In the truck, the driver gave me a sympathetic glance. “Having a rough patch?”
I shook my head. “No, I’m leaving him for good.”
Surprised, he shot me a look, and I smiled a little. “Getting a divorce,” I added.
The driver sighed deeply, shaking his head in sympathy. “No wonder. Given that pretentious woman beside him, it’s obvious that he’s fascinated by her! Let me tell you, you deserve way better than a guy like that.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. We chatted on the way to my friend’s house. When we pulled up, I saw Parker already waiting for me with a friendly wave. I’d initially planned to have my things sent to a hotel, but Parker suggested that staying in a hotel would be inconvenient, inviting me to stay with him instead.

Chapter 5
Like Asher’s childhood friend, Camilla, Parker had been a friend since childhood too. But after my marriage, I’d always kept boundaries with all my male friends. I’d never even spent time alone with one. Whenever we ate outside, I made sure I was accompanied by someone.
I thought that everyone naturally respected these boundaries–only to realize too late that Asher had already crossed them.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped out of the car. Parker warmly thanked the movers and led me to a bright, airy bedroom he‘ d prepared on the second floor. “Stay as long as you like, Avery. Make yourself at home.”
I looked at him gratefully. “Thank you. I’ll pay rent at the going rate.”
Parker clicked his tongue and glared at me. “Forget about rent. Just focus on getting rid of that scumbag husband of yours.”
Parker’s house was a lovely little villa, and the bedroom was cozy and flooded with

sunlight. I ended up sleeping late the next day. When I finally came downstairs, I found Parker waiting for me with breakfast ready.
He smiled as I approached. “Awake? Have a look at this.” He handed me a draft of the divorce agreement. “If there’s anything you’d like to add or adjust, just let me know.”
I skimmed over it, nodding approvingly. “I trust your work–everything seems covered. Just one question on the property split: it’s set at 80/20 in my favor, rather than 50/50?”
Slicing through his breakfast with a smirk, Parker replied, “Given his cheating, I’m letting him off easy by not demanding a full clean break.”
I laughed, giving him a thumbs–up. He was indeed a true friend.
After breakfast, we went to the store to pick out some new bedding and essentials. As

Parker helped me choose, an angry figure suddenly stormed up.
“Avery, now I get why you moved out so quickly–you’ve been seeing another man behind my back?” Asher‘ s face was
flushed red, eyes blazing with fury.
