Chapter 8
“Avery, what exactly are you doing?” Asher demanded. “We’re fine–why do you have to insist on a divorce?”
“Are you still blaming me for the baby? I told you, that was an accident. It’s just one lost pregnancy; we can have another,” he snapped.
I couldn’t help but scoff, bitterly amused. Did he think he was some kind of emperor?
I rolled my eyes, then my gaze drifted to the suspicious red mark on his neck. “If someone else is willing to give you a child, so be it. But count me out.”
I hadn’t been around these past days; who knew what kind of thrill they had been seeking? Perhaps it excited them. But I had no desire to be part of their twisted game any longer.
“Tear up the papers all you want,” I told him calmly. “There’s a printer in the

Asher stubbornly refused, until Camilla, sniffling, pulled out a medical report and handed it to him with a look of wounded innocence.
“Ash, I truly didn’t want you and Avery to divorce. You’ve been together for six years, after all. But… I went to the hospital, and the doctor confirmed I’m pregnant.”
“The baby is yours,” she added timidly.
Asher stared at her, visibly stunned–not with the joy she was expecting, but with a frown.
“Camilla, what is this nonsense? We used protection every time… how could you be pregnant?” he exclaimed in disbelief.
On hearing his tone, Camilla burst into tears. “Why are you yelling at me? You were the one who wanted to make it exciting- that time in the car…”

Realizing I was standing right there, Asher went pale, hurriedly covering Camilla’s mouth. His face was drawn tight with unease as he anxiously explained, “Avery, don’t listen to her! I only ever wanted a child with you. Anyone else‘ s… I wouldn’t acknowledge them.”
I stayed silent, a cold smile forming. It seemed Camilla was determined to help me finalize this divorce today.
At this point, I decided to take a seat on the couch and enjoy the show.
Hearing his heartless response, Camilla threw a fit. “If you refuse to divorce her and take responsibility for me, I’ll jump off the roof right now!”
Asher looked as though his head was splitting from the headache. After an exhausting back–and–forth, he finally grabbed the divorce agreement and signed it without even glancing at it, just to placate her.

“Are you satisfied now, princess?” he muttered, coaxing her back to his side.
A smug look flashed across Camilla‘ s face as she threw herself into his arms, flaunting her victory at me.
I simply smiled wider. Truly, these two idiots were a match made in heaven.
The divorce agreement granted me a generous portion–20% of the marital assets. This included shares in his
company, millions in savings, and various investments.
Leaving with the signed divorce papers, I felt an immense sense of relief.
Outside, Parker noticed my soaked clothes, his brows furrowing as he draped his coat over my shoulders with a concerned look. “What happened?”
I chuckled. “Nothing–just a mad dog trying to bite.”
I held up the divorce papers. “All sorted.

Parker, my dear lawyer, I owe you a big one for helping me out. Dinner is on me.”
That evening, I booked the most expensive restaurant in the city and ordered the priciest wine.
Parker smiled, thoroughly entertained. “Well, well, look at my generous Avery, treating me to dinner.”
His gaze lingered warmly on my face, and I felt nothing but a refreshing sense of freedom in his company.
