Chapter 9
After two glasses of red wine, my cheeks flushed slightly, and I gazed at him with a hazy, almost drunken look in my eyes.
“I’m sorry,” I said softly. “For all the time I distanced myself because of my failed marriage.”
“Congratulate me on being single again,” I continued with a playful smile. “From now on, our meetups will only increase!”
After six years of marriage, I had never once shared a meal alone with Parker. We were childhood friends, after all. Our relationship had always been close, yet I had always kept a certain distance. Parker, knowing I was married, had been particularly considerate.
Why could we manage that, but Asher and Camilla couldn‘ t?
In the end, it seemed like a deliberate test, as if they thought I was easy to manipulate.

Parker sighed when he saw I was a bit drunk. “Your tolerance is so low. Don’t challenge men to drinking games in the future. You’ll only end up losing.”
His voice was gentle, like a soft murmur, and it made me blink harder, trying to
focus on his face.
He took my bag and opened the passenger side door, carefully helping me into the car. I grasped his hand tightly, unwilling to let
- go.
Parker chuckled lightly. “Avery, if you
don‘ t let go of me, how am I supposed to drive?”
In my drunken state, I acted irrationally.
“Fine. If you’re not driving, I’ll just sleep in the car!”
Suddenly, the memory of the used condom from Asher’s car came rushing back. My head spun, and before I realized it, I found myself sitting up and wrapping my arms around Parker.

I tilted my head, gazing at his face. The longer I looked, the more handsome he seemed. His lips looked so tempting that I couldn’t resist leaning in to kiss him.
Parker froze. He was clearly caught off guard and unsure of what to do, but he held onto my waist, afraid I might fall.
“Avery…” he whispered and gulped.
“You‘ re drunk,” he continued softly.
He tried to gently push me away, but didn’t want to be forceful for fear of me losing my balance. I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Parker, have you liked me for a long time?”
He stopped resisting, his eyes widening in surprise as he stared at me. “When did you figure it out?”
I laughed more joyfully. “Then what are you afraid of? I’m already divorced. What’s the harm in kissing and sleeping together?”

With that, I roughly unbuttoned his tie and kissed him again.
Parker’s breathing became heavier, but he still held me back gently. “Avery, you‘ re drunk. I’m afraid you’ll regret this when you wake up.”
I shook my head. “Whoever regrets it is a dog.”
I kissed him again, more insistently this time.
Parker’s eyes shone brightly, and in my words, he let go of all restraint. He gently cupped the back of my head, deepening the kiss as if he cherished me like a precious treasure.
I woke up to find I wasn’t in the car anymore. I was back in Parker’s small villa, in his bedroom.
I tried to turn over, but my body felt incredibly soft and sore, as though my

waist had been broken.
Opening my eyes, I was met with a calm, sleeping face.
Parker?
My breath hitched.
Then the memories of last night flooded back. After we had been intimate in the car, Asher had carried my limp body back to the villa.
Looking around at the scattered clothes and messy sheets, my face turned beet red.
I really shouldn’t have drunk so much!
What did I do last night?
Just then, Parker slowly opened his eyes, his arms wrapping around my waist. His voice still carried the sleepy sound of someone who had just woken up.
“Stay with me a little longer.”
I obediently stayed still, not daring to
move.

But in my heart, there was no resistance.
In fact, I felt a sweet, blissful warmth inside.
