Chapter 4
Luna placed her hand on Maria’s belly, her face darkening as she realized the truth. “There’s no heartbeat. Tell me what the hell is inside you?”
Maria’s face went pale with fear. She clutched her stomach and stammered, “Listen to me! I fell earlier–someone pushed me. That’s why the baby stopped moving!”

But Luna didn’t want to hear another word. With trembling hands, she slapped Maria across the face–twice. “You whore! How dare you betray my son?”
The dead fetus had already been inside Maria for some time. The moment Luna struck her, a sharp, gut–wrenching pain tore through her body.
Luna didn’t let anyone intervene. Instead, she kicked Maria’s stomach again and again. “You disgusting bitch! You and that bastard inside you deserve to die!”
Maria was beaten to the point of unconsciousness. It was only when the police stepped in that she was finally pulled to safety.
Even then, Luna refused to let them take Maria to the hospital. “She dared to do this to my son–let her die!”
Hugh had been standing there, listening in stunned silence. Now, he was trembling with anger. “What the hell is going on?”

Before Maria could answer, I struggled to break free from Isaac’s
grip, but he refused to let go. “Come on, honey, don’t cause a scene. You’re about to give birth–we need to get you to the operating
room.”
I shoved him off and pointed at Maria, my voice laced with fury. “Maria, does your husband know what you’ve done? Mrs. Luna Watson told me how much Hugh dotes on you, how he won’t even let you sweep the floor.
“You know damn well carrying another man’s child is shameful–are you too afraid to admit it? If he really loved you, would he have let that dead baby rot inside you for so long? He’s been playing you all along!”
I noticed Maria shooting desperate glances at Isaac, silently begging him for help. But Isaac didn’t even look at her. I knew why–he was afraid Hugh would come after him.
But Maria clearly didn’t see it that way. Still struggling, she shouted, “The baby is Hugh’s! Stop spewing lies!”
I smirked, adding fuel to the fire. “Then prove it. Show Hugh your full medical records.”
Maria’s face drained of color. She couldn’t say a word. Because when she first found out she was pregnant, Hugh had been away at sea. The hospital records were ironclad–there was no way to fake them.
Sensing my advantage, I pressed on. “Only people with

something to hide act this shady. Look at me and Isaac–we have nothing to cover up. We show our love openly.”
I pulled out my phone and showed Maria a post I had just uploaded. “See? Isaac packed my hospital bag himself. That’s what a real husband and father should do.”
Maria froze the moment she saw the video. “When… When was this?”
“Just now,” I replied innocently. “I’m about to give birth. Of course, Isaac should take care of me. He said it’s his way of blessing me and the baby. What about you? Your baby’s father didn’t do anything for you?”
It was a lie, of course. Isaac couldn’t care less about me or the baby- he’d rather we both drop dead than lift a finger for us.
But Maria believed it. Her face twisted with rage and grief.

Overwhelmed, she suddenly collapsed as blood gushed from between her legs.
“Massive hemorrhage!” a nurse shouted, rushing forward to help.
As Maria was lifted onto a stretcher, she somehow found the strength to grab onto me. “You’re about to give birth too, aren’t you? Let’s go together.”
I had been on guard against her all this time. The moment she reached for me, I slapped her hand away.

Then, before she could cry out in pain, I let out a loud, panicked scream. “What are you doing? Are you trying to drag me down. with you just because you’re having a difficult labor?”
Maria’s eyes rolled back, and she fainted on the spot. They rushed her straight into the emergency room for a C–section.
Isaac’s face darkened in panic. “Honey, today is the day–we can’t miss it. Come on, let’s get you in for surgery now.”
I widened my eyes in mock innocence. “But there’s only one operating room, and Maria’s in there. Wouldn’t it be rude to interrupt?”
“Maria? Who the hell cares about Maria? She’s nothing
compared to you and our baby. If she ruins this day for us, I’ll rip her to shreds myself.” Desperate to get me to agree, Isaac didn’t hesitate to curse Maria.
I looked at him, then smiled sweetly, “Alright.”
