Chapter 8
Maria pulled out all the evidence of her relationship with Isaac- where they met, where they slept together, even their plan to swap out my baby.
Isaac, of course, denied everything, stubbornly insisting it was all a setup. But with the proof laid out in front of everyone, there was no escaping it.
Seizing the moment, Luna called the police. Under their supervision, a DNA test was conducted on Isaac and the stillborn child. The results were undeniable–the baby was his.
With nowhere left to run, Isaac immediately dropped to his knees in front of me. “It was all Maria. She seduced me. Honey, you have to believe me. Who would even want a woman like her? She drugged me. That’s the only reason anything happened. And the baby? She got pregnant behind my back!”
Not an ounce of responsibility–he threw Maria under the bus
without hesitation.
Maria stared at him in shock, then let out a wail and launched herself at him. She wasn’t exactly a saint either–if she were, she wouldn’t have swapped out my baby and abused my daughter in my past life.
Now, fueled by rage, she kicked Isaac over and over, targeting his broken leg. Isaac howled in pain, his face contorted in agony.
Chapter 8
Meanwhile, I ran out of the room, pretending to be devastated, and called in a lawyer to settle things once and for all.
I filed for divorce. Isaac refused.
He tracked me down, looking desperate. “Laura, okay, I cheated.
I messed up. But that’s just a moral failing. Even if we divorce, there’s no way I’m walking away with nothing—I’m entitled to half of everything you own.
“And think about the baby–you’re about to give birth. Do you really want our child to grow up without a father? Don’t you want them to have a complete family? I know I was wrong, Laura. Let’s move past this. Let’s fix things. Please.”
Like hell I was going to forgive him. I took him to court. And as for his claim that he was entitled to half of my money?
On the day of the trial, the judge reviewed our financial records and announced that, combined, our accounts had a total of just fifteen thousand dollars. Since I was about to give birth, the entire amount was awarded to me for medical expenses.
Isaac was dumbfounded. “What? No way. Laura makes 40 grand a month. Where’s the money? Where the hell did all the money go?”
I smiled and answered, “Well, you slept with another man’s wife. He wanted compensation. Where do you think that money came from?”
Chapter 8
3/3
Isaac’s face twisted in disbelief. “You gave the money to Hugh? Are you insane? Have you lost your mind?”
He was practically foaming at the mouth. “Laura, you’re unbelievable. I slept with Maria for free, and you went and paid her husband? What kind of idiot does that?”
I wasn’t an idiot. I’d made a deal with Hugh in advance–once I got rid of Isaac, he’d return every last cent to me.
