On the day of our marriage registration, he did not show up.
His assistant only came to collect my ID. Less than half an hour later, he returned with our marriage certificate.
When she saw me lost in thought, Mrs. Xander must have assumed I was upset.
Without hesitation, she ordered her
attendant to bring over the family heirloom and placed the jade bracelet gently around my wrist.
“This is too valuable!” I exclaimed.
“You must call me Grandma! Besides,
you’re now one of the Lamberts and will be the family’s lady in the future. The entire Lambert estate is yours. This bracelet is nothing.”

Her words were like a déjà vu, making me feel dazed for a moment.
Years ago, the Xander brothers had said similar things. They had once teamed up to sneak one of Auntie Xander’s precious jewels and give it to me as a token of love.
When she found out, she did not get angry. Like Grandma Lambert, Auntie Xander just smiled and gently slipped the bracelet on my wrist.
“If you‘ re accepting my family‘ s gift, then one day, you must become my daughter–in–law.”
Unfortunately, before long, Lucy shattered
the bracelet.
The once inseparable trio, step by step, drifted apart.
My eyes reddened as tears almost escaped

Luke’s parents also gave me gifts. Every item was a rare treasure of enormous
value.
They all showed me the utmost respect and affection.
Though the marriage registration was completed, they didn‘ t pressure me to stay and learn the family rules.
Instead, they let me continue living with my mom until after the wedding. They gave Luke and me enough time to develop our relationship gradually.
“The wedding home is all set. You two handle things your way. We, your elders, won’t interfere.” Grandma Lambert winked. “Just remember, if that brat dares to mistreat you, you must come and tell me.”
“Thank you, Grandma,” I said.

After I and my mother left the Lambert Family, the wedding preparations kicked into high gear.
The Lambert Family was busy with every detail, and Mom was occupied every day with my dowry arrangements.
I was worried that I would feel pangs of nostalgia or regret about the past after leaving the Xander Family so suddenly.
However, with constant dress fittings and diamond ring selections, I was so busy that I collapsed into bed each night. I was too exhausted to think about anything else.
Gradually, I began to let go of those people and memories from the past.
One day, while trying on wedding dresses, I received a call from Auntie Xander.
“Leslie,” she said. “When James and Bruce heard that you’re getting married, they’re insisting on seeing you. I had tried to stop those two knuckleheads, but they were probably almost there by now. Just ignore

Hearing their names made me pause.
Before I could even hang up, I saw their reflections in the mirror. They were staring at me, their eyes filled with an array of emotions I couldn’t decipher.
There was shock, admiration, and a touch of regret in them.
“Leslie, are you really getting married?”
James’s voice trembled slightly.
