Chapter 8
Many years ago, Grandma Lambert had hinted that she wanted to have a marriage alliance. However, I could not bear to leave the Xander brothers. I had a dream that I would marry for love so I kept delaying to answer. During that time, although Luke had many better options than me, he was still waiting for me.
I did not know the reason. Maybe, he did it out of respect for his grandmother, maybe it was a good business decision, or maybe it was fate. Whatever his real reason was, he was the only one who consistently, without wavering, chose me. From the beginning, he only picked me.
Bruce scoffed. “So, you did it because you’re jealous of Lucy, right?”
“Is this really necessary to do this? We’ve known each other for twenty years. Lucy could never replace you. You should already know that there will always be a

place for you to take a bit at the Xander Family’s table.”
James was deep in thought. Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed my hand. “Don’t ruin your life just because you’re angry. Come home with us. Let me explain everything to the Lambert Family.”
As soon as the words fell from his mouth, he went flying by a swift kick.
Before I could react, I felt someone’s arm wrap around me and pull me close. A soft scent of sandalwood drifted over me and calmed my heart.
When I looked up, I met with Luke’s face. He was more handsome than his photo on the marriage license.
“The lady of the Lambert Family doesn’t need to eat some scraps from the Xander’s,”
he said with a low and firm voice.
His grip on my hand was steady and protective. It filled me with newfound strength.

I tightened my grip on his hand as I looked at the Xander brothers.
“Did you hear him? I have my own family now, my own life. I won’t be revolving around yours, nor waiting for whatever leftovers you decide to offer. I’m not doing this because I’m angry. I really want to spend the rest of my life with him.“.
There was a time I questioned why it was so easy for someone else to come into the picture and take first place. However, I came to realize that the person who really loved you would never let you wait for him. forever.
A story dragged on for twenty years was bound to end in regret. They were willing to abandon me, the girl they had known for twenty years for Lucy, the girl they had known for barely two months.
So, why did I have to cling to the past?
