No meeting in the next life
Chapter One
I basically bought my next–door neighbor’s
way to study abroad. The deal? Three years
of his time with me.
Well, the timer just went off, and he bolted.
So, I vanished.
Turns out, Liam started losing it, searching
everywhere for me.
And when he finally tracked me down, I was
hugely pregnant and standing next to another
guy.
Liam’s eyes went wide with disbelief.
“How? It’s only been a few months! You’re
having another man’s baby?”
Looking at his freak–out, I just wanted to
laugh.
If a baby was enough to send him spiraling,
L
what would he do if he knew I was dying?
- 1.
Ashley was finally coming home.
Liam was tripping over himself, throwing his
stuff into boxes, ready to move out of my
place.
Ashley’s return meant our arrangement was
over.
He’d agreed to stick around for three years in
exchange for me footing the bill for Ashley’s
overseas studies.
Even though Liam kept saying Ashley was just
like a sister to him, I wasn’t buying it.
He bent over backward for her, would’ve
given her the shirt off his back.
Not even a real sister would expect that, let
alone a girl he wasn’t related to.
He was almost done packing when I felt a
sharp pain in my chest.
I stopped him.
“Could you… could you stay tonight? Just go
in the morning?”
The look of disgust on his face stung. So I
snapped, “Forget it. Just leave.”
To my surprise, he slammed his suitcase
against the wall and smirked.
“Fine. Consider it a pity lay.”
Later that night, Liam went to the kitchen and
chugged a beer.
He always needed a little liquid courage to
numb himself before he could, you know, be
intimate with me.
I just wanted to hold him while I slept, but
when he touched me, I couldn’t help myself.
In the dark, Liam whispered, his voice husky.
“Let’s just… not see each other after this,
okay?”
Tears soaked my pillow. I whispered back,
“Okay.”
く
My voice barely above a breath.
When it was over, Liam turned his back to
- me.
He had no idea his wish to never see me
again might actually come true.
