If Liam ever found out the truth, he’d hate me
forever.
Even after all these years of trying to make
up for it.
But even if I kept my mouth shut, there was
く
someone else who knew everything.
Ashley.
I didn’t know if Ashley would spill the beans,
but I kept thinking about the last thing Liam
had said to me.
“Scarlett, can’t you just stop being so
headstrong? Stop doing things you think are
for the best.”
“Can’t you ever tell me anything? Stop
treating me like a puppet, keeping me in the
dark! Do you even realize you’re just making
me…”
I stared into Liam’s eyes and filled in the
blank.
Scarlett, you’re just making me sick.
I hoped Ashley could keep this secret safe. I
couldn’t stand the thought of Liam hating me
even more.
I was coughing constantly, trying not to hack
too hard.
く
The pressure building up in my chest was
unbearable, like my emotions.
Growing up without my parents‘ love, losing
them, then being rejected by the man I loved.
Even my own body wouldn’t give me a break,
wanting me gone.
And I had this name, “Scarlett Morrison“, that
was supposed to mean something good, hope
for a long happy life.
While I was lying in bed, writhing in pain, the
caretaker told me someone was here.
And that’s when I saw Ashley, decked out like
she was walking the red carpet.
Every inch of her was covered in designer
brands, limited editions and everything.
Liam, on the other hand, still wouldn’t spend
more than twenty bucks on clothes unless I
bought them for him.
And at the grocery store, he’d always check
for clearance stickers.
く
Ashley waved her hand under her nose,
wrinkling it.
“Ugh, what’s that smell? It’s disgusting.”
Sick people always had a certain smell, I
guess.
Ashley had a way of homing in on your sore
spots, even if she didn’t mean to.
I ignored her jab.
“What do you want?”
She walked around the house, checking it out.
“Nothing. You left so abruptly the other day, I
didn’t get a good look at your place. Thought
I’d pay you a visit.”
“Looking so rough, how’s living with Liam?”
If it wasn’t for the gleam in her eyes, I
might’ve actually believed she cared.
I was exhausted and wanted her gone.
“None of your business. You’ve seen it, now
leave.”
Ashley tossed her purse on the sofa and
plopped down, making herself comfortable. “Trying to get rid of me? Fine, I’ll get straight
to the point. I want you to stay away from
Liam.”
Even though Liam and I were over, I was still
confused.
“Ashley, you’ve already used Liam once. Now
you’re with some rich dude, why do you still
care? Even if Liam loves you, you can’t keep
stringing him along.”
Ashley paused for a second, then laughed.
“Liam loves me? That’s my problem, not
yours. You just need to stay away from him.
Otherwise, I’ll tell him that little secret you’re
so desperate to keep. Oh, and give me two
million bucks.”
Her calm delivery made me furious.
“Ashley, don’t push me! Do you really think
you’re the only one who can play this game?
Do you want me to tell Liam everything you’ve
་་་་ ་་་ ་་ ་་ ་་ ་་་ ་་ ་ ྃ! ་ ་་!!! U‘
ever yummy you ve
done!”
Ashley screamed at me.
“I’m pushing it? If you hadn’t hung up the
phone when I called Liam, I wouldn’t have
gone through any of that! This is all your
fault!”
