- 7.
Liam wanted to take me to the hospital, but I
refused.
I pushed him away.
“I don’t need you. I can go to the hospital
myself.”
Ashley chimed in.
“Sick and dying? You’re probably lying. That’s
why you won’t go to the hospital.”
I was scared he’d find out about the baby.
If he did, he wouldn’t let me keep it.
He didn’t love me. Otherwise, he wouldn’t
ignore Ashley after what she’d done.
No cameras, no recordings. I couldn’t prove
what Ashley had done.
I showed Liam the text messages.
く
He didn’t know anything about it.
If he didn’t know my passcode, how could
Ashley have texted me?
Ashley hugged Liam and started crying.
“I just want her to pay me back! She took you
away from me! If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t
have…”
I was so angry at this point.
While Ashley was in France, she got followed
after a bar. She called Liam.
I’d broken his phone after a fight.
Ashley said it was my fault she’d been
attacked.
I didn’t understand.
She was in France. Shouldn’t she have called
someone nearby?
What good would Liam have been?
Anyway, it didn’t matter. Liam and I were no
longer close.
If Liam ever blamed himself, Ashley could
manipulate him into doing anything.
The man who’d told me we were over
followed me home. He was there to defend
Ashley.
“Scarlett, don’t blame Ashley. Whatever she
owes you, I’ll pay it back. Blame me instead.”
I felt pathetic, furious, and sad.
“Why, Liam? I care about you! But Ashley, I
can’t be around you anymore!”
“I am not a piece in your game of love! Get
out of my life!”
I was never this emotional before.
Liam grabbed my shoulder.
“Scarlett, it’s not like that! Ashley’s just a
friend!”
“She saved my life.”
After the car accident, Ashley had been the
one to call 911.
“From the moment you showed up, I knew it
was vou And you hid from me, then showed
く
up in my life like you owned it.”
“You started paying for my college without
telling me why! Do you think that’s normal? I
have pride, you know?”
“You helped me without asking for anything. I
can’t tell you I loved you.”
It was too much to handle.
He’d loved me all along!
But I couldn’t. I was tired.
Carrying this secret was too much. I had to
tell him everything.
