Chapter 5
Jocelyn’s POV
Just like I had both expected and predicted, Gabriella was sent to the dungeon by the elders while both Dante and I were expected to attend a trial.
All through our walk to the room where our fate was to be decided, Dante did nothing but nag, making me wonder if he truly had any alpha blood left in him.
“You could have just let us settle it together,” he complained for the umpteenth time.
When I didn’t answer, he added, “She was grieving. I’m sure that she didn’t mean to attack you. Let’s just try to look at it from another angle, if you were the one in her situation, I’m sure that you would attack
someone too.”
That last comment was enough to push all my buttons.

“I wasn’t in the same situation as her, but I
was in one that was even much worse! So
cut the bullshit before I decide to let all of my anger loose and attack you instead of your mistress!” I yelled, making Dante go
silent in an instant.
Feeling anger bubble in my veins, I rushed forward and entered the room of the elders, leaving Dante behind.
In a room full of powerful werewolves who made important decisions that could not only affect our pack for the seven other packs in our territory, I felt my anger simmer down only to be replaced with something else. Respect.
And admiration.
Sitting with the rest of the elders was an old friend, Alexander.
He was a cousin of Dante and even though he could never be the alpha because he wasn’t next in line he still made it clear that
he wanted to serve in one way or the other.

One thing I had never suspected was him joining the elders.
An uncontrollable burst of pride began to spread in my heart just seeing him there.
It didn’t take long before Dante joined me and the trial began.
We took turns explaining our sides of the story and I had come prepared, providing the elders with enough evidence with every accusation I brought up.
By the time we were done, I was sure that I had won Dante by a landslide.
Elder Maximus, the oldest werewolf in our territory, stood up and cleared his throat.
“It shames all of us to see a day like this pass us by. Alpha Dante, you more than anyone know that it is one of your key duties to provide an heir to your name and ensure that your Luna is treated with utmost respect. Instead, you went ahead and got another Alpha‘ s Luna pregnant. Do you wish to bring a war upon us all?”

Elder Maximus asked with an arched
eyebrow.
Dante rushed forward, but not forward enough to cross the barrier between us and the elders. “No, Elder Maximus, I-”
Elder Maximus held up a hand silencing him. “Enough. I have heard more than enough. We, as the council of elders, have made a verdict.”
My heart began to race in my chest at the thought of finally leaving Dante once and
for all.
“Dante, from this day forward, you are no longer Alpha. Your cousin, Alexander, will be taking your place. You have shown us all that you are not worthy of such a title. Also, will accept Jocelyn‘ s rejection and free her from this terrible relationship!”

his heart. He wept and began to beg the elders to reconsider but none of them
answered, leaving the room without so much as a glance at him.
Alone with Dante, I walked over to him.
“It’s over, Dante.”
He shook his head. “No, please. Please, tell the elders I can change. I’ll leave Gabriella. You’ll be my world and I promise that nothing will come in between us. Please don’t just leave me. Please let’s start over.”
I shook my head no, preparing both myself and my wolf for what was to come next.
“I, Jocelyn, reject you Dante Alessandro, and any bond we might share.”
With bloodshot eyes, he stared back at me.
“I, Dante Alessandro, accept your rejection.”
