He called me from different numbers and I swtiched off each time.
I treated Joel the same way.
I got a new phone.
I got rid of everything from the past, including the old phone card.
We’re in different
parts of the world. We might not meet again. So why bother?
A few months later,
We met in hospital.
I sat in a crowded waiting room, watching the screen, waiting to be called.
Adam pushed Joel and appeared next to me.
His face is thin and his eyes are gloomy. He has lost his youthful spirit.
His smile was fake and worse than crying.
“I didn’t expect to find you here. You’ve come a long way.”
Is it far? Running from north to south.
I smiled.
“You ran far too.”
He grabbed my wrist, “Jeanne, come with me. I don’t mind you being crippled anymore.”
Every sentence. I pulled his hand away.
“We divorced long ago and are strangers.”
He shook his head, “Jeanne, why are you like this with me?” “I was wrong. I know I was wrong.”
“Why don’t you forgive me? Why do you want to leave me?”
Adam saw he was agitated and gave him a pill.
He warned me, “Don’t stimulate him.”
I nodded. “Stay away from me. Or I’ll try to stimulate him.”
“You….” Adam glared.
Joel pulled him back in time. He seemed to have calmed down.
“You go back with me, and we’ll get married again. I know what you’re thinking. I love you all the time”
I almost vomited after hearing that.
He was still trying to make me believe that he only disliked me because he loved me.
If he hadn’t blocked me, I would have left.
Joel doesn’t know my legs have recovered.
I wonder how he’ll react when he sees I can stand.
My phone lit up with a call.
When he heard I was going to the gynaecology department, he was surprised.
“Jeanne, why are you going to the obstetrics and gynaecology department?”
I touched my stomach, where there was a small embryo.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, I got married”
“What?” He was shocked. “How could you possibly get married? Who else could you marry but me?”
He didn’t want to believe it and was relieved.
“You lied to me on purpose. You’re still angry with me!
