Tears streamed down my face.
I turned and ran out.
I could hear them yelling through the door.
I looked up, letting the tears run down my
face before wiping them away.
I felt empty, like something important was
gone.
Ben, Mark.
I’m done with you.
Mark used to say I was too nice and that
people would take advantage of me.

Mark was now taking advantage of me.
I took a cab home, locked myself in my room,
and cried all night.
The next day, I got ready and packed all my
things.
I moved out.
I didn’t love Mark anymore.
Lily was wearing the newest necklace in the
conference room, fidgeting with it.
The necklace was from Mark.
Ben announced that he was giving his shares
to Lily.

My stepsister had been trying to steal my
fiancé and my brother because she didn’t feel
secure after her time in foster care.
I told my parents about Ben and Lily. My
parents cared about the company, more than
me or Ben.
I sped up the merger with the Miller company.
Mark hadn’t contacted me in two weeks. He
said he needed time to take care of Lily.
He must have thought I was still Sarah Jones.
Two weeks later, I broke up with Mark.
I added, “single” to my Facebook bio.
Mark called. and I blocked him
Mark called, and I blocked him.
The next day, Mark came to the office, but
the secretary blocked him.
The day after, I didn’t even let Mark in the
building.
Mark now seemed to be a jerk who liked to
gaslight me.
The fourth day, Mark didn’t come.
Lily was smirking.
I went out for hot pot with my friends on the
weekend. Mark pushed the door open halfway
through.

Not surprised.
My Facebook posts didn’t go unnoticed.
Mark hesitated before saying, “Sarah, please,
don’t break up with me.”
I looked at Mark’s eye bags as I continued to
eat my spicy beef.
He and Lily must not sleep together.
I looked at the picture that was on my phone.
I felt nauseous.
