Rebirth back ten years ago, my
husband and I each chose someone
else, but he regretted it
Chapter 1
I woke up ten years younger, all thanks to a
car crash.
The first thing I did? Dumped Jake.
In my previous life, he’d used me to get close
to Brittany.
He watched her date other guys, all while
keeping me on the hook.
He wasted seven years making me Mrs. Jake
Turner, only to regret it.
<
This time around, his first move after waking
up in the past was to ditch me.
“Annie, let’s call it quits,” he said.
Back then, Jake wasn’t the big–shot CEO
everyone kisses up to now.
He was just a college kid trying to get a Pell
Grant.
He was so hung up on Brittany that he was
willing to date her best friend to get closer to
her.
He regretted it for a decade.
I agreed to disappear from his life.
But then I accidentally became “somebody,”
and he started crawling back.
What’s up with that?
The bell rang, signaling the end of class.
“Annie, wanna hit up the cafeteria?”
I ignored Brittany, looking all sweet and
innocent, and started packing my bag.
Jake, standing next to her, gave Brittany a
look of pure adoration.
“No, we’re good. Annie’s gonna be super busy
lately,” he said, trying to sound casual.
He turned his pretty–boy face to me, all but
begging me to agree.
“Right?”
I remembered his cold voice when he dumped
- me.
I can still hear his lack of compromise.
“Annie, let’s just part ways amicably. This
time, I don’t want to miss my shot with
Brittany.”
Yeah, he regretted it for ten freakin‘ years.
He regretted dating me to get closer to her
and making himself Brittany’s boyfriend in his
dreams.
He’s got a second chance, so there’s no way
he will let it go wrong again.
I smirked.
“Sure. You guys go ahead. Like he said, I’ve
got that campus competition thing going on.
Gotta rehearse.”
Brittany’s eyes flickered when I mentioned the
competition.
Last time around, I was sitting on a mountain
of cash from my parents, but I played the
struggling wife act so Jake wouldn’t feel bad.
I wanted him to feel like we were both rising
to the top together.
I’d secretly fund all his big dreams.
I was so stupid.
I would pay for the basement apartment he was renting, and make dinner every night.
Later when he was trying to start his own
company, I was secretly investing.
He used to tell me, “Annie, I don’t know what
I’d do without you.”
Watching them walk away, I called out to
Jake.
