A month later, Harris showed up, and
Michelle sought him out as soon as she
caught wind of it.
Though a month was brief, it had been.

Though a month was brief, it had been long enough for Michelle to experience unprecedented terror and anxiety.
Since I’d driven Michelle out, she’d been forced to sleep in the sewers. Now, she was not only disfigured but reeked of decay, looking like something out of a horror movie.
Harris nearly jumped out of his skin
when he saw Michelle.
Michelle threw herself at Harris, sobbing.
“It’s me, Harry! Please help me. I can’t go
on like this anymore.”
Harris seemed to recognize Michelle’s
voice and brushed her hair aside. Michelle’s face was grotesquely deformed, with bone
visible through the flesh. Harris screamed
and violently shoved her to the ground.
“Ghost! Get away from me!”
Michelle was devastated, staring at
Harris in disbelief.
“Harry, didn’t you promise you’d love me.
no matter what I looked like?”
I couldn’t help but laugh. Men were

visual creatures, and besides if Harris was
willing to tolerate my marriage to Michelle for money, he clearly didn’t love her that
much.
It was time to let Michelle experience what it feels like to be betrayed by the one
she loves most.
“What nonsense are you spouting?
You’re hideous! I’d have to be blind to want
you. Get out of here!”
Harris leaned against the wall, retching
violently.
Michelle froze, then suddenly burst into maniacal laughter. “Liars! You’re all liars! Eric said you’d reject me, but I didn’t believe him. Now I see what kind of person you really
are.
That was right. The day I threw Michelle out, she confidently told me Harris would always be waiting for her. She said I was a fool. So I had no choice but to speak to her
the cruel truth.
Harris retched violently, spitting out the
words between heaves. “Stay away from.

Perhaps realizing she had lost her last shred of hope, Michelle pulled out a knife. With eerie calmness, she walked up to
Harris and plunged it straight into his heart.
Harris stared at Michelle in disbelief, his
pupils constricting.
“Why… did you…”
Michelle’s face was ashen. “Traitors
deserve to die,” Michelle said. “Eric told me
you were just after money. I reported him to the tribunal. Once he’s convicted, we can live happily ever after. If it fails, I’ll take all the punishment. You won’t be harmed at all.”
It looked like my plan to drive them
apart worked perfectly.
Harris tried to say more but suddenly
collapsed, lifeless.
Michelle gave a bitter laugh as she
turned the knife toward her artery.
“Eric, I’ve wronged you in both lifetimes. You were the one who truly loved me all
along.”
Blood sprayed everywhere as Michelle
fell into the crimson pool. I watched silently,
unmoved.
When I died in my past life, I was full of
resentment, too. They weren’t any better off.
I just hope my days ahead will be
peaceful and happy.
I had been given a second chance at
life. I wouldn’t be so foolish this time.
