brought this on yourself. Who else is to
blame?”
I tried to explain, but that made Ben even
worse.
He was certain of his conclusion because he
knew that his mom never liked me.
She even swore I’d never set foot in the
Thompson house.
Ben had fought with her about it, even
threatened to cut off his family.
And now, the woman he loved killed his

mother.
How could he take that?
After dropping Chloe off, Ben seemed to
remember me.
He took me off the block list, pounded on the
steering wheel, and dialed my number.
After a while, I watched his brow furrow.
He smacked the steering wheel in frustration.
“Ashley Davis, you dare not answer me, you
have a death wish”
If only he knew, it wasn’t that I wasn’t
answering
It was that I couldn’t answer.
Half a month later, Ben finally came back to
our place.
He kicked the door open, yelling, “Ashley, get
your ass out here!”
He threw open every door, but I was nowhere to be found.
Ben’s already dark face tunned black.
<
He ordered his guys to find me, snarling,
“Ashley, if you’re gonna run, you better run
far. ‘Cause when I catch you, I’m breaking
your legs.”
But the woman he wanted to break the legs
of was right there in front of him.
Soon, one of the guys sent him a location.
Ben’s face became terrifying. I followed his
gaze. It was at Frank Miller’s place.
“Mr. Thompson, the last phone call Mrs.
Thompson made was to Mr. Miller, but Mr.
Miller said he hasn’t seen Mrs. Thompson. We
think he kidnapped her.”

Ben said, “I’m on my way.”
Ben sped to Frank’s house.
His face was dark. He kicked the closed door
hard.
Once, twice, the third time, the door opened.
Frank was calm, but he had dark circles under
his eyes.
“What’s up?”
Ben sneered, “You hid my wife. What do you
think’s up?”
<
Frank was still blank. It was as if he didn’t
want to be on this earth anymore.
“I didn’t hide her. She’s dead. Didn’t the
crematorium call you to get the ashes?”
“You’re helping her act? She’s determined to
hide from me.”
Ben didn’t believe I was dead. He thought it
was just another act.
He looked at the house, yelling, “Ashley, don’t think you can get away because Frank Miller’s protecting you. I’m counting to three. If you
don’t come out, I’m losing my temper.”
く
Three, two, one.
Ben kicked Frank in the face. He told his men
to search the house.
Frank went down to the ground, but his face
was angry.
“Ben, Ashley’s dead, didn’t you pick up her
ashes?”
“She’s dead, been dead for days.”
Frank grabbed Ben’s collar, pinning him to the
wall.
Ben’s face went dark. “You still want to hide
