Chapter 4
“Jeffrey, don’t do this…” Daisie whispered, hiding behind her father. She deliberately showed her hand that was just red from the bouquet.
Mom noticed her hand at a glance and felt very distressed.
“Oh my dear, your hands are all red. Why are you still helping her speak?”
With concern, Dad also went to inspect, saying, “Come on, I will take you to reduce the swelling. Your hands are precious, you can’t leave scars there.” He then took Daisie out of the ward without waiting to see how she responded.
Mom also hurried along and nobody gave me a glance the entire time.
Jeffrey squeezed my neck and had me
breathe in pollen from the sunflower. The asthma that had recently been subdued
returned and I was so miserable that I

nearly passed out.
Jeffrey let go just as I was ready to pass away. He glared at me and said, “This is a warning to you. If you dare to bully Daisie again next time, I will never let you go.” After saying that, he left without looking back.
I was trembling all over as I lay on the ground. I tried to call for aid but couldn’t make a noise. Using all of my might, I was only able to lift my hand and clutch Hilton’s still–present trouser legs. I wanted him to come to my rescue, but all I could do was babble.
Hilton shrugged off my hand without trying to disguise his contempt.
“If you enjoy pretending so much, then keep pretending. I’m not interested in seeing your performance. If you really can’t do it, just die.”
I gazed at his back in desperation as the final thread in my thoughts broke, but I

was unable to speak.
I didn’t pretend to have an asthma attack; why didn’t everyone believe me? Why?
Someone found me, then called a doctor. This person saved my life today when I believed I was dead.
I was the only person in the ward when I opened my eyes again and it was already the afternoon of the next day. Like my heart, it was empty.
Looking through my phone, I saw that Daisie had shared something with a group of people I was familiar with. In the picture, she was eating lunch with my parents, Jeffrey and Hilton.
The caption said, “I really hope I can be with them forever and no one will destroy this happiness.”
Jeffrey was the first to like this post and commented, “Daisie is such a good person. Of course we will always be with you and will not let someone destroy this

happiness.”
“Yes, mom and dad will always love you…” Then came the comment from my mother.
They were hinting at me, I knew. If it had happened earlier, I would have cried and pleaded with them to stay with me. I would have obeyed. However, I gave up entirely this time. I no longer felt anything as I looked at the picture of the five happy people smiling. Only they were a true family and I was an outsider from the start to the finish.
In this instance, I would grant their
request.
I located my college senior in the address. book. He came from an affluent household and had a keen sense of business. At the age of 25, he was already in charge of a major company.
Not long ago, he came to me. He
recognized my scientific research abilities and treated me with the utmost respect as

long as I agreed to work with his firm. I turned down his offer since all I wanted at the moment was to be a full–time wife. I now feel bad about it and I wasn’t sure whether he would still accept me.
The call was quickly connected and I simply told him my purpose.
