Hannah stared at the photo in a daze. Bobby was differen from Chester
Bobby had always been an easy, thoughtful dog. Ever since he joined their family, he had taken on the role of looking after her, like a little guardian.
When she was sick, he would bring her the medicine box. When she was tired, he would fetch her packages. If she cried, he would lie beside her, holding tissue box in his mouth as if comforting her.
After Chester was born, Bobby took on another job–protecting him in her place.
“If Chester kicked off his blanket in his sleep, Bobby would patiently cover him up again.
If another kid tried to bully Chester, Bobby would rush over and scare them away. For a while, Chester had become a little tyrant of the neighborhood, relying on Bobby’s protection.
She had thought Bobby would always be by her side, her lifelong companion.
That was why the accident had been so unbearable.
On the day of the car crash, Bobby lay in her arms, covered in blood.
Yet even then, he licked her palm as if to reassure her. He even lifted his head toward the villa, waiting for Chester to appear.
And Chester did show up. But not to worry about Bobby.
Instead, he told everyone that Bobby was at fault, that Rebecca had done nothing wrong.
Bobby had died with his eyes wide open. She had tried desperately to close them, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t
That was when she broke down. That was when she lost control.
Rebecca hadn’t even fought back that day.
Thinking back now, maybe it was intentional Maybe she wanted Christian to walk in and see Hannah at her most pathetic.
Maybe she wanted Chester, who had already wavered, to fully take her side.
She had succeeded.
But Bobby…
Bobby was gone forever
Hannali had hated herself. Hated that she didn’t have the power to make Rebecca pay for what she had donc. Hated that no matter how much she had tried. gratitude.

Christian must have felt some guilt because he had bought Bobby a burial plot. It took her days to find the location.
And now that she was standing in front of the gravestone, guilt still weighed heavily on her. Bobby had been so good to her, and yet she hadn’t even been able to take care of him after his passing.
She didn’t even know if he liked this place.
“Mommy!”
Ethan suddenly stood up and plucked a fallen leaf from his shoulder.
“Look! Do you think it’s a gift from our friend?”
Our friend.
He had never even met Bobby, yet he treated him as a companion.
Hannah looked at him, watching as he carefully held the leaf like a treasure. Something inside her stirred.
“He was just a dog. Do you really think of him as a friend?”
Ethan blinked in confusion.
After a long pause, he hesitantly asked, “Mommy, am I not allowed to be friends with a dog?”
“Of course, you can!” she blurted out.
Then, realizing she might have scared him, she pressed her fingers to her forehead with a sigh.
She remembered that day when the police had taken her away. Chester had stood by Rebecca’s side, glaring at her with pure hatred.
“It was just a dog, but Madam Rebecca’s car got dirty!”
At that moment, she had felt her whole world collapse
She had been so furious that she couldn’t even speak.
Before that day, she had wondered if maybe she had been too stubborn, too unwilling to compromise.
But Ethan’s words healed her.
She smiled. “If Bobby sent you a gift, it means he likes you.”
Ethan lamed and carefully placed the leaf into his pocket
“Then I need to give Bobby a gift too!”
He rummaged through his pocket and pulled out a lollipop, then crouched down and placed it in front of the gravestone:
1
Bobby, I’m Ethan, Do you like lollipops! Next time one, I’ll bring you more gifts. Don’t worry! I’ll make sure to get you a big, juicy bone!”

Ethan clenched his little fists and pressed them against the gravestone, as if making a promise,
Just then, a soft breeze blew through the trees.
Another leaf gently landed on the back of Ethan’s hand. His face lit up with joy.
“Mommy! Bobby wants the bone!”

Hannah wiped her eyes. “Alright, next time we visit, we’ll bring one for him.”
She sat down with Ethan beside the gravestone, chatting casually.
Not far away. Chester stood frozen, watching them.
When he had first seen them stop there, he had wanted to rush over and cause trouble. He couldn’t stand how smug Ethan always seemed.
But when he heard Bobby’s name, his steps faltered.
He suddenly couldn’t move forward. It was as if something terrifying stood in his path.
Yet his eyes remained locked on that small gravestone, and before he realized it, tears started streaming down his face.
Amelia gently urged, “Mr. Chester, let’s go home.”
“I’m not going!”
Chester clung to a nearby tree, refusing to budge no matter how hard Amelia tried to pull him away.
In the end, they could only wait for Hannah to come down the hill.
