“We’re here!”
Jane arrived with a few friends in tow. She had brought four people with her–two men and two women. It was the lady who sold password–locked doors and three of her locksmiths. They brought with them all sorts of lockpicking tools, including a cutting machine
We quickly rushed to the basement door and began to try to break in.
The door was especially thick, much like the anti–theft ones used at banks. It was so sturdy that even removing the lock cylinder couldn’t unlock the door.
In the end, we had no other choice. We pulled a power cord extension over and fired up the cutting machine. The two male lockpicks took turns cutting through the door with the machine.
After two whole hours, the door finally opened.
I switched on the lights in the basement. All of the basement doors were open except for one. Therefore, I went over to open it. Despite pushing it with all my might, it wouldn’t budge.
Evidently, someone was in there!
Jane and I exchanged looks before nodding with excitement. If someone was in there, we were going to drag her out, even if she was the queen of the country!
“Open this door!” Jane ordered one of the locksmiths.
This door was much easier to handle. The locksmith destroyed the lock cylinder then kicked the door.
At first, one kick wasn’t enough to make it budge. Thus, two of them had to work together. Finally, they managed to kick the door down.
I switched on my flashlight and shone it into the room.
“Don’t come in here! Don’t come in here!”
There was a woman hiding inside. She was wearing a baseball cap and a mask, dressed in my silver long- sleeved pajamas. She had a fruit knife in her hand, which she pointed at us.
I gave her a look, smiling coldly. Then, I peered into the garbage can outside the door. There were tissues covered in semen inside!
It turned out that Zane was hiding a woman in the house and getting busy with her here!
“Who are you? What are you doing in my home?” I screamed furiously, glaring at her.
“It’s none of your business! Get out, or else I won’t show you any more mercy!” the woman shrieked, waving the fruit knife.
Those words sent me flying into a rage. I raised the small cupboard by the door into the air before hurling it at her. Jane didn’t stay idle either. She picked up a chair and threw it at the woman.
After two loud crashes, the woman wailed. She shrunk into a corner, hugging her legs.

Chapter 8

When the two men saw this, they stormed toward her and snatched the knife out of her hands. Then, they twisted her arms behind her back and subdued her.
However, she refused to give in. She writhed violently, cursing loudly.
I yanked the cap and mask off of her to get a good look at her face. She was rather beautiful, except her narrow eyes made her look ferocious.
“Hey, don’t I know you?” Her face looked familiar to me, but I suddenly couldn’t remember who she was.” Jane, this woman looks really familiar. Do you know her?”
Jane inspected the woman closely before shaking her head.
Suddenly, I thought of something. I unlocked my phone and scrolled through my watch history. There, 1 found the news video about the car accident in front of our office. When the female driver on the run was mentioned, her photo was also shown on screen.
I paused the video to compare that photo to the woman in front of me. When I looked at her, I was astounded. They were the same person!
“Bree Polene?” I exclaimed.
The woman raised her head sharply, staring at me in terror. “Y–You know me?”
It was her!
I slapped her across the face harshly. “You ran people over, fled the scene, and now you have the audacity to hide in my home!”
I’d never cursed at someone before, but now, I wish my words could kill her.
It was at that moment that everything clicked.
After Bree had fled the scene, she had nowhere to hide, so she’d asked Zane for help. Thus, Zane had scouted for a place to shelter her. Finally, he’d set his sights on me because he wanted my family’s villa. Afterward, he had secretly brought her over and hid her in the basement!
“Jane, call the police. This woman is that hit–and–run driver on the loose!”
“Ah!” Jane and her friends were all stunned.
After snapping out of her daze, Jane began to come at Bree from both sides, smacking her face nonstop.” You killed three of our colleagues! You’ll get the death penalty–just wait!”
Meanwhile, her friend called the police. Less than five minutes later, there were two police cars parked outside my home, and numerous officers rushed to the basement. After confirming Bree’s identity, they Immediately arrested her.
