As the door to the private room closed once again, the noises within were shut away. At the same time, Mabel felt as though something had been taken away from her.
What it was, even Mabel herself didn’t know. Vaguely, she understood that she was no longer the same as before. Truthfully, she hadn’t been the same for a while. What happened that day was merely the lifting of the final veil of pretense
Suddenly, a hand reached out toward her. “Let me help you.”
Mabel recoiled as if she’d been burned, raising her head. “Ms. Mikayla..” she addressed reactively upon seeing the person in front of her but then found herself at a loss for words. After a moment of silence, Mabel forced a smile at Mikayla. “Im fine.”
Mikayla’s breath hitched for a moment. How could she possibly be fine!
“I’m doing very well, the seemingly humble woman stated with unwavering conviction.
Mikayla’s breath hitched again. No, you aren’t, Mabel!
She desperately wanted to yell at Mabel, but the words were stuck in her throat.
“Mikayla, this money. Mabel leaned against the wall, struggling to keep herself upright. Slowly, she pulled out handfuls of up money from her clown costume pocket that she had carmed by playing the fool in the private room. “Mikayla, could you please deposit this into my bank account for me?”
Mikayla watched as Mabel pulled out the bank card Xavier had given her from her pocket. What could possibly be the reason for someone to carry this bank card around at all times
Xavier was Mikayla’s boss, so she couldn’t say anything bad about Xavier. Yet, when she looked at Mabel, she felt a pang of sorrow on her behalf. What on earth had this woman done to offend Mr. Scott so severely that she’s subjected to such cruel treatment?
A complex emotion flickered in Mikayla’s eyes as she watched Mabel hobble away while leaning against the wall for support.
Mikayla felt as though the money and bank card she held had become a hot potato.
Mikayla swiftly turned around and left, dashing into her office as if she had wings. She stuffed the bank card and all the money into her office safe. Only then did the burning sensation in her palm subside.
When Mikayla returned to Room 606, she nearly collided with Xavier as soon as she opened the door.
“Mr. Scott, Mikayla respectfully called out. With a casual humn of acknowledgment, Xavier walked past Mikayla and left.
When Mikayla entered the private room, the scions were still discussing what had happened. “That woman earlier was so pathetic! I’ve been around the block and seen many money–loving women, but I’ve never encountered one who loved money so disgracefully as she did. Tsk.”
“Yeah, that woman was crawling on all fours, wagging her butt like a submissive b*tch. I really wanted to kick her. She was so shamelessly groveling to that extent, all for the sake of money. Honestly, I’ve never seen anyone stoop so low.”
Mikayla really wanted to retort to them that what they thought wasn’t what happened. Mabel loved money, she wouldn’t have handed all her money to me as soon as the left this room! She would’ve kept the money on her if she was that obsessed with money, but she
Mabel was exhausted as she returned to the dressing room where Mikayla had previously brought her to. She took off the clown costume she was wearing and changed back into her own clothes.
The sticky sweat on her forehead was making her extremely uncomfortable. Mabel entered the changing room’s attached. washroom, turned on the faucet, cupped some water, and washed away the unpleasant sweat from her face.
A gust of wind suddenly blew past her. Mabel stiffened as she saw the abrupt appearance of a man in the mirror, her fist unknowingly clenched tight. “Mr. Scott”
In the mirror, Xavier was looking at her with an expressionless face.
After a moment, he scoffed lightly, “Well, you’re starting to know your place. It seems you’ve after your stay in prison.”

his thumb. Smirking, he uttered, “It’s a pity that it’s too late. Ms. Mabel Jennings, if only you had learned your lesson three years ago, you wouldn’t be in the predicament you are in now. Don’t you agree?”
Mabel’s heart fluttered. She understood what he meant.
He was implying that if she hadn’t laid a finger on Whitney three years ago, then she wouldn’t have spent those three years in prison. She would still be the esteemed daughter of the Jennings family in Moontown instead of the pitiful woman she had become.
With trembling lips, she said. “You’re right, Mr. Scott.” Three years ago, Mabel would have argued and claimed innocence, but she had learned to remain silent in those three years.
Xavier was infuriated when he saw her not arguing with him, but he couldn’t figure out why.
His gaze grew even fiercer! The turmoil in his mind left him, a man typically known for his composure and aloofness, feeling a hint of annoyance.
