Since Lachlan was falsely accused that day, he’d been distraught
if he hadn’t fully processed what was happening during their first confrontation at The Main House, he’d begun to sense something was off by the second encounter at the Blackwood
House.
Yet as stubborn as he was, he insisted this was just Lillian’s stress response from years of me “bullying” her.
I didn’t bother explaining myself.
You could never convince someone with prejudice unless they figure it out themselves. Today, I was staying in the study as usual.
The servant came rushing in, looking extremely anxious.
“Something terrible has happened, Mr. Thorpe! Mr. Madison Thorpe fell into the water!”
Another drowning incident?
Why does Lillian keep using the same old trick?
“Was Mrs. Thorpe pushing him?” I raised an eyebrow, speaking coolly.
“Right! It’s probably because of what happened at the Blackwood House last time, when Mr. Madison Thorpe hit Mrs. Thorpe back then, so Mrs. Thorpe held a grudge, and today while Mr. Madison Thorpe was playing outside, she secretly pushed him from behind!”
The servant spoke as if it was perfectly logical.
I laughed coldly to myself. What a smooth story, perfectly wrapped up from start to finish. It seems Lillian has been busy making arrangements these past few days.
“So what’s happening now?”
I didn’t rush, preferring to get all the facts first.
“The doctor has already examined him and said Mr. Madison Thorpe’s life isn’t in danger, but was badly frightened and needs time to recover. Ms. Blackwood fainted again because of this incident and only regained consciousness after receiving an injection. Would Mr. Thorpe like to check on her? The servant related all this without once mentioning “Clara.”
I curved my lips into a slight smile and deliberately asked, “And what about Mrs. Thorpe?”
“Huh? Mrs. Thorpe? I believe she’s already returned to The Main House…”
The
servant stammered, quickly lowering his head.
I knew he was avoiding the topic.
According to customs, Lachlan was probably seriously injured.
“Let’s go check The Main House.”
I walked with purpose.
This left the servant behind me completely confused.
“What was wrong with Mr. Thorpe? The Main House? Shouldn’t it be the Blackwood House? How am I supposed to respond to Ms. Blackwood? Once she found out, all hell would break
loose…

“Are you okay?”
As soon as I entered The Main House, I dismissed everyone.
“Clara, don’t you think Lily has lost her mind?! She had the nerve to push Madison into the water right in front of me, then accused me of doing it!”
The moment he saw me, Lachlan became agitated and rushed toward me.
I stepped aside, turning to pour myself a glass of water.
“Lily pushed Madison? That seems unlikely, even a tiger won’t eat its own cubs. Besides, didn’t you always say Lily is gentle and kind–hearted? That she wouldn’t even step on an ant? Why would she harm her own son?”
I deliberately contradicted him, my words dripping with sarcasm.
Lachlan froze at my words but remained visibly agitated. He was clearly shaken up.
“I don’t even know
what to think, but I swear it all happened!”
“But darling, couldn’t this just be Lily having another stress reaction to seeing me? After all, she’s usually so sweet–tempered and the easiest person to get along with.”
I continued my nauseating act, throwing Lachlan’s words back at him!
“This goes way beyond some stress reaction!”
Lachlan shouted.
“If it were stress, she would be nervous or scared around me! Or she might show
self–protective behaviors due to panic or fear! I could understand all that! But pushing her own child into the water is practically attempted murder! It’s morally reprehensible and completely inhumane.”
Lachlan grew more worked up with every word.
I strategically reached out and covered his mouth, smiling with fake sincerity.
“Oh, Lachlan, you shouldn’t talk like that. Everyone knows Lily has a pure heart. That’s plain for all to see. Who in the entire Thorpe Estate doesn’t have something nice to say about her? Your must be misunderstanding things.”
“What misunderstanding?!”
“After she pushed Madison in, she ran over and slapped me dozens of times across the face! My head is still spinning and my ears are ringing from it!”
Lachlan held his face, apparently having aggravated his injuries by talking too much.
I carefully examined the wounds on his face, my emotions a jumble of amusement and sadness.
I
How many times had I been bullied by Lillian, suffering far worse injuries, but did Lachlan
ask about it once?
Now that it was happening to him, he knew how to feel sorry for himself.

ask about it once?
Now that it was happening to him, he knew how to feel sorry for himself.
“That’s impossible! You must be mistaken, darling. How could Lily hit anyone? I remember
what you told me Lily injured herself while coming to find you, and she’s always been too fragile
to take care of herself. She gets winded after taking a few steps, collapses at the slightest
breeze, constantly complains about feeling dizzy, and can barely lift her arms. Where would she
get the strength to slap you??”
My tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Lachlan’s face darkened, and he remained stubbornly silent.
“You don’t need to mock me. I’m not lying!”
“Whether you’re lying or not, you don’t need me to believe you. But to sort out right from wrong, you should get to the bottom of this.
I dropped my smile and turned to face him directly.
“What do you mean?” Lachlan frowned, clearly not understanding.
I smiled inwardly, knowing my fish had taken the bait.
“You used to say Lily was sweet and kind, perfect in every way. But now you’re saying she’s heartless. That’s contradictory. So which version is the real Lily? Don’t you want to find out for yourself…”
I said with a smile.
“How would I do that?” Lachlan was intrigued.
“Well, if that’s what you want, leave this matter… to me.”
I wore a calculating smile, a gleam of cunning in my eyes.
