Chapter 7
Lucas proudly showed me the smartwatch on his wrist
“Mom, I sent our location to Ivy earlier, and Mr. Evans got here so quickly,”
Ryan blushed a little and gently ruffled Lucas’s hair. Then, he winked at him behind my back.
I could not help but laugh.
It felt so nice to be cared for.
Worried that I might get wet, Ryan took off his coat and covered my head. Then, he shielded me with his other hand as he helped me into the car.
I sat in the back seat and teared up as I saw Lucas laughing and getting along with him.
When we arrived at my apartment building, Ryan insisted on helping me carry the bags upstairs.
I did not refuse his offer, and we walked upstairs. Lucas was in between us, and he held our hands.
As I looked at our reflection in the water, I suddenly thought that being a family of three was not so bad
after all.
We were chatting happily, but I froze when we stepped out of the elevator.
Williams was standing at my door with a delicate box in his hands.
James was smiling happily by his side.
However, Williams frowned the moment he saw Ryan.
Eventually, he forced a smile and sounded incredibly awkward. “Christelle, how have you been lately?”
“I’m fine,” I responded casually and walked past him as well as James. Then, I took my keys to open the
door
Ryan and Lucas followed me from behind.
Williams held James’s hand and tried to follow us inside, but I stopped them with my hand.
“If you don’t have any important business with me, please don’t come in.”
Williams froze in place.
Meanwhile, James ignored my words and tried to slip past by ducking beneath my arms.
However, his dad quickly grabbed him by the back of the neck and pulled him to his side.
Williams gulped and said, “Christelle, do you remember what day it is today?” His voice was full of pa
pain.
Seeing my confused expression, James could no longer hold back and exclaimed, “It’s your wedding anniversary!”

He forced a smile and held up the gift box in his hands.
“Mom, Dad picked out a really beautiful ring for you.”

Chapter 7
Williams never gave a ring when we got married. Perhaps it was because he did not actually want to
marry me.
After I gave birth to James, I told him that I wanted one several times. Yet, he coldly refused my request
each time.
On the rare occasion that he reluctantly accompanied the and James to the mall, I would linger in front of the counter.
I would gaze longingly at those beautiful rings, but he would pretend not to see anything. He would quickly pull James away, and I was left awkwardly trying to catch up to them.
I did not accept the gift box from Williams.
I did not need a ring from him anymore.
I had the means to buy one for myself and no longer needed anyone to please me.
Seeing that I would not accept it, James grew a little anxious.
He took out a stunning diamond ring from the box and shoved it into Williams’s hands.
Dad, hurry up and put it on Mom. Then, she’ll forgive us.”
Williams grabbed my hand and tried to put the ring on me, but I gently pushed him away.
“Williams, I don’t need it anymore.
“We’ve been divorced for a long time. Please leave with James and stop interrupting my life.”
His hand hovered in the air and started to tremble.
Even so, he remained stubborn and refused to pull back
“Christelle, could you give me another chance?” he pleaded.
He sounded earnest for once and even teared up.
Before I could respond, Ryan came over and pushed him away.
He was probably worried that I might waver.
