Days later, Chad called.
I answered.
The first thing out of his mouth was, “Ashley,
have you thought about it?”
<
I was speechless. What the hell was I
supposed to be thinking about?
A few days ago, I got a friend request on
Facebook out of nowhere. I accepted. Asked
who it was, but no response.
Then I got a photo.
It was a selfie of Tiffany and Chad.
Tiffany was leaning on Chad, all smiles.
Chad was looking down at her, totally
smitten.
I didn’t reply. Just blocked the account.
I knew Tiffany was trying to mess with me.
I knew Tiffany was trying to mess with me.
I didn’t get why this supposed chess prodigy
had to steal some regular girl’s boyfriend.
But Chad wasn’t getting to me anymore.
I thought we were done, that Chad knew it
too.
So why was he calling, asking if I’d “thought
about it?”
Was this some kind of game to play?
It’s so boring.
Chad was getting impatient. “Ashley, talk to
me! Don’t play dead!”
“I was gonna give you some more time to
cool off, but Tiffany said I shouldn’t. So I’m
calling to ask, have you made up your mind?”
I nodded slowly.
“Yeah, I have.”
I was about to break up with him when I
heard Tiffany’s voice, all weepy, on the other
end.
“Boo hoo… Chad, I had a nightmare that you
left me. I’m scared…”
Chad’s voice moved away from the phone,
and I could hear the concern in his voice.
“It’s okay, Tiffany, it was just a dream. I’m not
going anywhere.”
“R–really?”
Chad said, “Of course! I, Chad Miller, am not
leaving Tiffany Hayes.”
I used to get annoyed when I heard Chad and
Tiffany talking.
Now, it just made me laugh.
Are they on stage playing a role?
I hung up, found Chad’s number, and texted
him.
[Chad, I’ve thought about it. We’re done.]
