I don’t know what Chad was thinking, but he
wanted us to have dinner together.
Him, his parents, my parents, and me.
I couldn’t help but wonder if Tiffany came up
with the idea.
She just wanted to show me how happy they
were, to mess with me.
Mr. Miller refused immediately.
“Why would we eat with that kid? He runs off
with his tournament money and doesn’t do
anything! Just makes me mad!”
Mrs. Miller started talking about what we
should have for dinner.
“Let’s eat with Chad. He won the
championship and hasn’t taken us out yet.
This is a chance to make him pay.”
We got to the restaurant, and Chad and
Tiffany were waiting.
Tiffany glared at me, then smiled and grabbed
Mrs. Miller’s arm.
“Hi, Mrs. Miller, I picked out this restaurant.
It’s supposed to be really good, and the view
is amazing. Come on, you guys!”
Mrs. Miller pulled away and grabbed my arm.
“Ashley, you and your mom sit next to me.”
They pulled me to the table and sat me
between them.
It was like they were going to war with Chad
and Tiffany.
I laughed.
I never thought this would happen. The Millers
just didn’t like Tiffany.
But I was touched.
Chad was their son, but they weren’t just
taking his side.
They were treating me like their daughter,
even if it meant going against their son.
I squeezed Mrs. Miller’s hand, thanking her.
Chad looked embarrassed. He quietly sat
down, telling Tiffany to do the same.
During dinner, Chad and Tiffany kept trying to
talk to us.
But my parents ignored them.
The Millers were sarcastic, picking on them,
acting like evil in–laws.
It ended with Tiffany crying and running off.

I don’t know if they had a good time, but the
four of them were having a blast. They were
telling jokes while holding me and went back
to the hotel to play cards.
When I saw them pull out the cards, I was
shocked.
I got bored, so I went out for a walk.
When I saw Chad and Tiffany arguing, I
wanted to die.
