Chapter 33 Stealing Him and Her
Farrah’s answer wasn’t what Adrian had expected. After some thought, he said, “We’ll have to go with the flow for that. Also, don’t think you can tie me down with a child.”
Farrah retorted, “Why do you always think the worst of everyone?”
He didn’t answer, but it was because he’d been on his quard around everyone since childhood.
Farrah smiled wryly. “Besides, why would I want to tie you down? We might be legally married, but no one else knows about this. You’re free to do whatever you want!”
Adrian frowned slightly at that. Her words reminded him of the scene he’d witnessed at the hospital, where she’d peeled an apple for Corey. So, he asked, “Do you not have any morals? What are you trying to do? Do you want to have an affair?”
“No, I’m just giving you the freedom you want in case you think I’m trying to do anything.” She felt he was too sensitive. “Also, I want you to know that I don’t want to fall pregnant just yet–I want to focus on my career! Pregnancy isn’t a good thing for career women, you know.”
Adrian dropped the subject when he saw how firm she sounded. Meanwhile, Farrah sighed in relief. How could she place her trust in their marriage when he and Sheila’s relationship was so horrible?
Besides, she didn’t want to start a family and become a stay–at–home mother. She wanted to become a rich designer who didn’t need to rely on anyone else for survival!
That night, Adrian was evidently in a bad mood. When they got home, he told Farrah, “You’re sleeping in the guest bedroom tonight.”
After that, he shut the master bedroom door behind him, leaving Farrah standing outside.
Tsk.
Vid he think she wanted to sleep with him? She was perfectly fine sleeping in the guest bedroom! She could tell he was in a bad mood–he hadn’t been this depressed even when forced to marry her. So, there had to be some sort of secret in his family. She couldn’t find anything online, though.
After thinking about what had happened earlier, Farrah concluded that Adrian actually cared a lot about his relationship with Sheila. He was in a horrible mood now but didn’t want Farrah to notice, so he locked her out of the master bedroom.
What was the reason for this, though? What would make a mother treat her son so coldly? Adrian’s eyes and lips resembled Sheila’s, so he probably wasn’t adopted.
That night, Adrian wasn’t the only one who lost sleep because of his bad mood. Farrah did, too, but only because she had too many questions. It looked like even the wealthy had skeletons in their closets.
Monday was a day Germaine had been looking forward to for a while. She’d been devastated since seeing Farrah get into the front passenger seat of Adrian’s car at the hospital and witnessing Farrah use Adrian’s card at the Hermès store. Her weekend had been spent wallowing in self–pity.
“Morning, Mr. Locke.” Germaine stood in the elevator in her navy blue suit and short skirt. She seemed to be in good spirits when she saw Adrian enter. She smiled at him.
“Morning. Adrian had dark eye circles marring his handsome face. He hadn’t gotten much sleep over the past two nights.
The doors slid shut, and the elevator headed upward..

Despite already having worked for Adrian for years, Germaine’s heart would still race whenever she saw him or was alone with him. His charm worked on her like magic.
Once upon a time, she thought he would pay more attention to her if she we all he did was increase her pay. He never looked at her like a woman.

This had given Germaine the impression that Adrian wasn’t ready to date anyone yet. That was fine–she was willing to wait for him.
But now that Farrah had come into the picture, Germaine panicked. She felt like Farrah had stolen Adrian from her.
When the elevator stopped, she pushed these thoughts out of her mind. She and Adrian exited the elevator to see a surprising sight.
“What are you doing here, Corey? Didn’t the doctor tell you to get a few more days of rest?” Adrian asked as he approached Corey’s desk.
Corey was happy to see them. “Morning, Mr. Locke. I was bored at home, and it’s just my arm that’s injured. I came to help Gem so that thing won’t be so hard for her.
Adrian didn’t think too deeply about this. He had to prepare for a morning meeting.
In truth, Corey’s reason for returning to work was simple–he wanted to be closer to Farrah! He missed her despite only being apart for a few days. Since the heavens had allowed them to be reunited, he felt like this was a new beginning for them. He had to make full use of this opportunity!
