Chapter 29
Meghan’s POV
“What do you mean by that?” I asked and I could clearly see him cursing himself. “Carter?”
“Forget it! Like I said, you and I will never happen. I will only take care of the child and I hope you can keep it that way!” He hissed and turned to
- go.
I quickly caught his arm.
“Carter…” my voice cracked. “Why are you treating me this way? We used to be so close and happy. We would laugh, talk about almost everything. go on dates…”
“Which I was supposed to be doing with my wife!” He cut me short. His tone was so harsh that it triggered goosebumps. “Everything I did with you, I was supposed to do with my wife! And because of you, she left me!”
I wanted to roll my eyes. I honestly didn’t understand this new obsession with Veronica. She had always been by his side, and he never paid any attention to her, so why now? He was acting like he couldn’t live without. her.
“I don’t think any of it matters now. She is gone! Don’t you get it? Dead and gone! You don’t need to do anything other than pay respects to her with a couple of flower bouquets. Why are you making this a big deal?” I
asked him.
He shot me another glare, “I don’t have time for this nonsense.”
Chapter 24
He turned and walked to the door, but when he tried to open it, it was locked. I casually moved to the bed and sat down, crossing my legs as I watched him.
“What is the meaning of this?” He barked at me. “Open the door this. instant!”
“Me?” I huffed. “You and I were just arguing now, how is it possible that I locked the door?”
His eyes narrowed as realization hit him. He banged the door so angrily that it sent a jolt through me.
“Mom! Open this door, right now!!” He demanded.
“You are not leaving, Carter. Not until you own up to your
responsibilities and treat Meghan as your wife!” Mrs Grayson retorted from the other side and it made me smile.
“Mother, I don’t have time for these games. Open the door and let me out!” He fired.
“You can yell from now until tomorrow, if you want to but be rest assured that you are not leaving this room until you do the needful,” she went on.
“What needful for goodness sake!” He groaned.
“Get into the bed, drink with her, make love and forget all about that twart!” She instructed and I adjusted my bra. “Veronica is gone! Gone! She won’t come back even if you decide to be a priest! So go ahead and live your best life son, please.”
Carter’s shoulders sagged and for a second, I celebrated my victory. He shot me a glance but said nothing and simply walked to the bathroom.
I prepared myself, and soon enough, the shower was running. I got impatient and stepped out of my underwear. I decided to meet him in the
shower as well.
I opened the door and spotted him in all his glory, washing the soap off his eyes. I walked in slowly and wrapped my arms around him. He immediately stiffened.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” He gritted.
“Taking a shower with my man?” I shrugged. “You feel so fucking good.”
He angrily peeled my hands off him and stomped out of the bathroom.
“Hey! You still have soap lather on your back!” I called him, but he didn’t come back. I cursed under my breath.
Why the hell was he being so difficult? Then my mind flashed back to his outburst earlier.
Clearly, he somehow believed she was still alive but I knew she was dead. She had to be. But what if she wasn’t? What if she had somehow managed to escape the fire? Was that even possible?
The mere thought of it made my blood boil If those useless boys lied to me then I would make sure I had their heads. It cost me so much to get them on the job. There was no room for disappointment.
I turned off the shower and grabbed a towel. After drying myself, I stepped into the room to see Carter on the couch, scrolling through his phone.
The man was as stubborn as a mule.
“Even if you don’t want to sleep with me, could you give me a massage at least?” I asked.
“If you want a massage, get a masseuse” He snapped.
甘
“Why are you doing this to me?” My eyes watered. “I didn’t ask to be pregnant. You put this child in me! I wanted to take it out and you insisted that I keep it! Why the hell are you making me feel like a homewrecker?”
He dropped his phone, his eyes softening. I smirked inwardly. Freaking got you!
“I don’t mean to imply that. I just hate the fact that you are forcing a relationship with me when I am in love with another. I can’t be with you, Meghan, it won’t work even if I tried,” he said, shattering my heart.
I sucked in a breath as he stood up and walked to me.
“I just need you to understand please…” he pleaded.
Understand? I huffed inwardly even though my eyes were teary. He had to be delusional to think that I would let him go just like that.
“No… I don’t understand. We used to be in love, way before she came into the picture and snatched you from me. Now that she is out of our lives, why can’t you love me again? Can’t you see that fate wants us to be together?” I sniffled.
“What stupid fate are you talking about? I just told you that I can’t love you. Why can’t you get it?” He hissed.
“I
see,” I drawled. “Then there is no point keeping this child because I will never have a child outside marriage!”
His expression immediately changed.
“What the fuck are you saying?” His tone went dark but I refused to be intimidated.
“It is very simple. You either marry me or I get a fucking abortion!”
