Chapter 56
Threats
Meghan’s POV
I decided to visit him in jail. If not for anything, just to show the world that I indeed tried to be the bigger person and actually went to see my “abusive” fiance.
I already tipped the media about it so that they would be pictured everywhere on the news and people would see me as a beautiful pure soul.
I knew he would want to kill me the minute he saw me but what can I say? It would only add to my popularity.
I was directed to the visitors room while they went to fetch him. I could see the anger burning in his eyes the moment he saw me. He wanted to kill me but what can I say?
“Hello, Carter,” I greeted with a small smile the minute the officers left the room. “How are you coping?”
He surprisingly didn’t answer me. I expected to lash out at me in anger but he was doing the exact opposite. Flipping the script I guess.
“I’m guessing you’re not doing well, huh? Jail doesn’t look good at you. Your handsomeness is already starting to fade away,” I taunted.
He still wasn’t provoked by my words. He was ruining my plans and I hated it. I needed to give the media something juicy and the officers had to see it happen I order to confirm my story.
“When are you going to tell them the truth?” He asked me.

I leaned back in my seat with an amused smile. “The truth? Everyone knows the truth, Carter. Were you hoping I would tell them something else?”
“The game has gone on for long enough. I think it’s time to stop. I get you, you’ve gotten your point across so I’m asking politely that you withdraw your statement,” he said.
“Wow!” I crossed my arms, an amused smile settling in my face. “How long did you rehearse that? So tell me, what did you do? Wire this place with voodoo? Or you have some perfume on that is supposed to make me do your bidding?”
A puzzled expression crossed his face but there was annoyance too.
“Don’t get angry, boy. I just want you to tell me what gave you the audacity to think that I would do whatever you tell me to do?” I said and his fists began to clench.
Finally! Some emotion! I was wondering when it was going to come out. But he did something surprising instead.
“Officer…” he yelled out. “We’re done here!”
It caught me off–guard because I’d expected he’d be grovelling, at least. Did his family figure out a way to get him out? Even at that, his reputation would still be damaged unless I said something to the public and I didn’t plan unless he was officially making me Mrs Grayson.
“All you have to do is accept to marry me, Carter and we can forget any this ever happened,” I said.
“Bold of you to think that you still have a chance of being my wife after this stunt you pulled. Any form of relationship we had together is done. I’d advise you throw away that ring in your finger cause the minute I get out of here, I’m getting back my wife!” He said coldly.

“What about the baby?” I demanded. “I’m not going to be a single mother, Carter, if that’s what you’re thinking.”
“Then don’t,” he said simply.
“What does that mean?” I asked but he was already walking out the door. “Hey! Wait! What does that mean?”
I tried to follow him but an officer stopped me.
‘t understand, I need to talk to him. I have to know what he By that!” I tried explaining but my words meant nothing to them.
vas escorted out and for the first time since this saga started, I wasn’t so sure I had done the right thing. I felt like I was on the verge of loosing everything and it was all because of that stupid bitch, Veronica!
If she thought I was just going to sit back and watch her steal my man again then she had another thing coming!
I met her waiting for me in my apartment. I knew I was about to get scolded but if I played my cards right, she might still be willing to help. me get to Carter.
“Mrs Grayson, what a pleasant surprise!” I made to hug her she stopped. me halfway.
“Don’t you even dare!” She hissed and I froze halfway. “How could you do that to my son? What were you thinking?”
I stepped back, the venom in her tone enough to send a shiver down my spine. But I couldn’t let her see that. Instead, I plastered on my sweetest

smile.
“Mrs. Grayson, I think there’s been a misunderstanding,” I began, my voice as calm as I could muster. “Everything I did was for Carter. To protect him and our future together.”
Her piercing glare made me falter. “Protect him?” she scoffed. “You. framed him, Meghan. You dragged his name through the mud, and now you want to act like the victim?”
I opened my mouth to protest, but she wasn’t finished.
“Do you have any idea what
you’ve done? Carter’s entire career, his reputation, it’s in shambles because of you. And for what? So you could play the martyr? You’re nothing but a selfish little brat who doesn’t know when to stop.”
“That’s not fair!” I shot back, my voice rising. “Carter betrayed me first! He’s the one who…”
“Enough!” she snapped, her tone slicing through the air like a blade. “I don’t want to hear another excuse. Carter might be stupid sometimes but I‘ m not. You crossed the line, Meghan, and now you’ll face the consequences.”
My stomach churned. “What are you saying?”
Her lips curled into a cold smile. “You’re done. Do you understand? Whatever hold you think you have over my son, it’s gone. Don’t even think that you can become a part of our family ever again!”
“You can’t do that!” I protested, panic bubbling up in my chest. “You can’t just throw away everything we planned together. Carter and I are having a baby!”
Her eyes narrowed, and for the first time, I saw genuine fury in her gaze. “Don’t you dare use that child as an excuse” she hissed. “If you think for

one second that you can destroy him and have you us accept you because of the baby then you don’t even know who you are dealing with.”
Her words felt like a slap, obviously I had lost her but I was certain I could get her back. But for now, I had to fight for myself.
“I feel like you are threatening me. Mrs Grayson but we will see about that.”
She stepped closer, her presence suffocating. “Oh, we will. But let me give you a piece of advice, dear: don’t underestimate me. You think you’re smart, but you’ve just declared war on the wrong family. By the time I’m through with you, you’ll wish you’d never crossed paths with Carter Grayson.”
She turned on her heel and strode out of my apartment, leaving me standing there, shaking with a mixture of rage and fear.
I clenched my fists, determination burning in my chest. If Mrs. Grayson thought she could intimidate me into backing down, she was sorely mistaken.
This wasn’t over. Not by a long shot.
