Allies
Meghan’s POV
I was beginning to rethink this. I mean Mrs Grayson naturally liked me. It would probably be more easy to just grovel and have her like me again than threatening her to do what she didn’t want to. There was a very big chance that she would end up hating me and eventually try to get rid of
- me.
“Wait Ryan,” I called suddenly and he froze. He had an impatient look on his face but I needed him to listen to me because if what I was thinking worked, it would make things a lot easier for me.
“What now?” He sighed.
“Maybe I should talk to her.” I said and his expression didn’t look very pleased.
“What do you mean by talk to her? Isn’t that what we’re here to do?” He asked me
“Yeah… of course, but I was thinking we could try a different approach first.” I said. “I think I can convince her if I just pretended to be very remorseful.”
“Meghan, that is a very long process,” he groaned. “Let’s just get in there and get this over with.”
“Just give me ten minutes, okay? She is a very potential ally, we can’t just

make an enemy of her,” I said.
“Fine! Fine! Do whatever you want!”
“Thank you.”
I entered the mansion with him and fortunately, that annoying old man was nowhere in sight so I could peacefully talk to her without any interruptions.
“Mrs Grayson?” Ryan called. “Are you home?”
“Ryan?” We heard her voice from the kitchen. “Is that Ryan?”
“Yes ma’am.” he answered.
“Come on in. I’m in the kitchen,” she urged and we exchanged glances. Mrs Grayson in the kitchen? What happened to all her maids? I, for one, knew that woman couldn’t cook to save her life.
“I think I’ll just wait out here. I actually came to discuss something important with you. I wouldn’t want to interrupt your cooking.” Ryan responded.
“Okay, okay, just make yourself comfortable. I’ll be out in a bit,” she said. “Dinner is almost ready by the way.”
Ryan and I exchanged glances. She was really cooking. I couldn’t even imagine what it tasted like.
I sat with Ryan in the living room and waited for her to come out. I really hoped that we wouldn’t have to blackmail her. Whatever Ryan had on her was probably bad, which was definitely why he didn’t want me knowing.
Anyways, I didn’t see how framing my fiance and getting him in jail was
worse than that.

Mrs Grayson stepped out for the kitchen and as expected, her expression immediately changed on seeing me.
“What the hell are you doing in my house?” She demanded and I immediately went on my knees.
“I… I just came to bed you to forgive me please. I don’t know what I was thinking. I just couldn’t stand the thought of Carter leaving me and returning to his ex–wife. He made it seem like the gala Incident was all my fault. He told me he didn’t care about our baby, he was going to send. me away…” my voice cracked as I held back a fake sob.
I squeezed my eyes tightly shut hoping that the fake tears would roll down touch her icy heart.
“I don’t care what Carter did! It wasn’t enough for you to ruin his image and tarnish my family’s image. Do you have any idea how many clients we have lost because of your stupidity? Now you kneel there telling met you’re sorry?” She fired.
“I know you’re angry and it wasn’t definitely my best decision but I was desperate, mom. I needed something to hold on to. I promise you I will come forward with the truth if that is what you want but please don’t turn your back on me,” I pleaded.
She scoffed. “Oh now you need me. Days ago you were running your stupid mouth, telling me I couldn’t do anything even if I wanted to!”
Fucking bitch! Why couldn’t she just accept the damn apology and move on? Did she need to bring up the past? I can’t wait to become the new Mrs Grayson and put an end to the nonsense control she thinks she has over
everyone.
For now, I would just have to endure her insults.
“Please forgive her, mom. She is really sorry.” Ryan pleaded and she narrowed her eyes at him.
“Really?” She hissed. “You’re begging for this imbecile?”
My fists clenched by my sides. I was trying my best to be civil with her and she was busy testing my patience.
Ryan glanced at me with a knowing look. A look that screamed I told you
so!
“Mrs. Grayson,” Ryan said, his voice calm but firm. “I understand how you feel, but Meghan is genuinely trying to make things right. Can we at least have a conversation without hostility?”
Mrs. Grayson crossed her arms, her sharp gaze moving between the two of us. “A conversation? After the damage she’s done? You expect me to just sit down and listen?”
“Yes,” Ryan replied. “Because no matter how angry you are, Meghan is still a part of this family. Carter’s decisions have been questionable, but this feud isn’t helping anyone. We all need to
move forward.”
I shot him a subtle glance, unsure of where he was going with this. He wasn’t supposed to be defending me, but I wasn’t about to stop him if it helped my case.
Mrs. Grayson stared at him, then sighed, her expression softening ever so slightly. “Fine. But this is her last chance.”
I quickly composed myself, lowering my gaze. “Thank you, Mrs. Grayson. I know I’ve made mistakes, but I promise, I’ll do whatever it takes to make things right.”

She didn’t respond immediately, her sharp eyes studying me as if searching for a crack in my façade. “What exactly do you want from me, Meghan? Spit it out.”
“I… I want to make amends,” I said carefully. “I’m willing to confess everything and publicly apologize for my actions. But I need your support, your guidance. Please give me another chance, I beg of you. I can’t afford to lose Carter. ”
Her lips pressed into a thin line. “You’ve already lost him, Meghan. But if you’re sincere. I’ll consider helping you. You’ll have to prove it, though. You already betrayed my trust once.”
Ryan spoke up. “And if she does? Will you let this go?”
Mrs. Grayson’s gaze snapped to him. “That depends on how much damage she can undo. But let me be clear, one more mistake, and I’ll personally ensure she has nothing left.”
I nodded, swallowing the bitterness her words brought. “I won’t let you down.”
Mrs. Grayson turned on her heel. “You’d better not. Now, get out of my house.”
Ryan grabbed my arm and gently guided me toward the door. As we stepped outside, I exhaled heavily, letting my mask of remorse drop.
“Happy now?” Ryan asked, his voice low.
“Thrilled,” I muttered sarcastically. “She’s going to make this a nightmare.”
“She won’t, if you stick to the plan. But if you slip up again, Meghan…”

He gave me a hard look. “Not even I can protect you.”
I narrowed my eyes at him but didn’t respond. The truth was, I wasn’t planning to rely on Mrs. Grayson or Ryan for long. Once I had Carter,
and the Grayson fortune, under my control, no one would be able to touch
- me.
