Darcy’s face glowed with smug satisfaction.
She put on a show with her high and mighty
attitude, but her voice stayed sweet.
“Jake says that if the film crew doesn’t want
to give me a small part like this, he might
have to reconsider being the lead actor.”
Mr. Jones’s face darkened.
He glared at Jake in the doorway, fighting
back his anger.
Jake looked unbothered, leaning casually
against the door frame, his eyes mocking.
He was clearly indulging Darcy’s antics.
Mr. Jones’s face was red with fury.
Finally, he managed to say, “This is
ridiculous!”
He couldn’t bring himself to fire me, but he
was also helpless.
I grabbed my violin case, then said quietly,
“It’s fine, she can have it.”
<
Darcy’s smile widened.
Mr. Jones stormed out, clearly angry.
I slung my violin case over my shoulder and
started to walk out.
As I passed Jake, I couldn’t help myself.
“She’s not right for you.”
It wasn’t a comment, but I had to say
something.
I turned to leave.
Jake suddenly reached out, grabbing my arm.
I looked down and saw the veins bulging on
く
the back of his hand.
