Chapter 4
“I didn’t know. I’m so sorry,” Tom apologized.
While teasing Bella, I replied, “Sign the papers, and I’ll take care of the formalities once I’m out of confinement.”
“Honey, listen to me…” he tried to say more.
I hung up the phone.
Harry brought back the signed divorce agreement. I noticed his hands were red.
“He didn’t end up in the hospital, did he?” I asked.
He shot me a glance. “Feeling sorry for him?”
I glared at him. “I feel sorry for you.”
He laughed, “At least you still have a conscience.”
I blocked Tom, but he sent me messages from a new number. Fearing I’d block him again, he sent me a long message that spanned several
screens.
I took one look and quickly backed out. It was filthy.
Unable to reach me, Tom resorted to hanging around Harry. Harry, frustrated, had security strip him of all his clothes,

leaving him in only his underwear. They tied his hands and feet and threw him out into the street.
“He looks like a mangy dog,” Harry spat.
When Isabel heard about it, she sent me a message to apologize. I replied: [It’s your chance now.]
Then I blocked her too.
After I was out of confinement, Harry took me back to his house. He had bought me an apartment downstairs from his own, something I hadn’t known about. I didn’t notice anything unusual when I entered and asked him when he had renovated.
He felt helpless. “It’s your house.”
When I got married, I dreamed of growing old with Tom. Harry, ever the pessimist, had quietly prepared an escape plan, ensuring I would always have a place to return to.
“Harry…” I cried in his arms.
He complained that I had soaked his shirt with my tears and went upstairs to change.
I told him that if Bella ever pooed on his shirt, he would find it pleasant to smell. He shot me a side–eye. “Bella is different.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck from behind. “Tell me, who do you love more, me or Bella?”

He sighed with a smile, “I love you. Otherwise, you’d cry again.”
Two days later, I met Tom outside the courthouse. Harry came with me, acting as my bodyguard.
“Sara…” Tom bowed to me.
He continued, “I was wrong. I’m terribly sorry for you and our daughter. Please, give me one more chance. I love you and her. I don’t want to divorce. I want to be a good husband and a good father.”
Harry yanked him up. “Stand up and leave.”
“I haven’t even seen our daughter yet,” Tom cried.
He covered his face and squatted down.
He sobbed, “I didn’t want this. I didn’t know.”
I took out a photo of Bella. “Come inside with me. Once we finish the paperwork, I’ll give this to you.”
Half an hour later, he came out and looked at the photo with a smile. “She looks like you.”
Bella was growing fast. Harry often said, “At least she doesn’t look like that bastard.”
“Can I meet her?” Tom asked.
I snatched the photo from his hand. “Wait until we get the

divorce certificate in a month, and then I’ll let you see her.”
