He was about to be removed from his position, yet still thought I was just throwing a
tantrum.
A small shareholder beside me noticed I had stopped defending Asher and quickly called in
an assistant to escort him out.
The shareholders unanimously voted to remove Asher from his position as CEO and
appointed me as the new CEO.
As soon as the meeting ended, Asher dragged me into his office.
“Liliana, what’s going on? Is this really the way to act when you’re upset?”
I interrupted him, “You’ve been removed. The vote was unanimous.”
Asher, fuming, snapped, “Liliana, can’t you say something to help me out? And what’s with you being a woman? What can you really do as CEO? You think you can handle such a big
company?”
I sat back in the CEO chair and looked at him. “Asher, I think you’ve forgotten. I came back from studying in Helvornia. I grew up in this office. Two years ago, the Fernbrook project? I oversaw it from start to finish. And you, Asher, are just a graduate from a third–rate university. You were a secretary’s assistant. Without me, do you think you could sit in this office? Now, pack your stuff and get out. And by the way, let’s get a divorce.”
Asher glared at me, his face full of rage. “Liliana, you’ll regret this. Don’t come crawling back
to me later.”
With that, he stormed out.
He thought that once he left, the company would fall apart.
What a joke.
I called my secretary in and threw his things into the trash.
Then, for the next few days, I worked overtime, overwhelmed by a mountain of tasks.
Asher had left me with a mess to clean up.
One evening, I received an email.
It was filled with intimate photos of Asher and Eleanor. Some were without clothes. There
were dozens of them.

At the very bottom, a message read: [I heard you and Asher are getting a divorce. I know a lawyer who specializes in this. Need help?]
I knew exactly who it was, Ethan.
I wasn’t about to be polite. Since I was busy, I decided to hire the lawyer he recommended.
The next morning, Asher rushed into
my
office.

Asher slammed the file he was holding onto the desk. “I’ve seen her proposal. It’s the best one
out of all of them.”

This was a project that Eleanor was mainly responsible for, but as soon as I took over, I removed her.
At that moment, Eleanor strolled in slowly.
“Mr. Farley, it’s my fault. It’s because of my own shortcomings. Don’t blame Ms. Clarke.” That woman… she walked in, and now she was pretending it was all her fault?
Seeing her act like that, I didn’t hold back.
“I’m not satisfied with your proposal. And frankly, your ability is limited, plus you’re greedy. All those kickbacks you took in previous projects? That should be enough for you to buy a few apartments by now. I’ve asked accounting to go through every single transaction. If anything is off, you’ll be facing a lawsuit.”
Asher was furious. “Liliana, what are you trying to say? Do you even know how much Eleanor has done for you? Can her salary even cover her living expenses here?”
Eleanor started playing the poor card, talking about how hard it was for her coming from a small town and struggling in the big city.
So that was her excuse for greed?
I couldn’t be bothered to argue with them. I had security escort them out.
Later that evening, I came home to find Asher sitting seriously on the couch.
After several days of not coming home, suddenly, he was here, and it startled me.
He slammed a stack of documents on the table.
“What’s this?”
It was the divorce agreement. Ethan’s lawyer really worked fast.
