“The pin would look nice with my blue dress.
Can you go get it from the dry cleaner?”
Mark’s face tightened.
He was about to call a delivery service.
I stopped him.
“I thought you loved me. Can’t you do one
small thing?”
Mark bit his lip and agreed.
I smiled.
Then I told Danny to pick up my birthday cake
from a bakery outside of town
The trip would take at least an hour and a
half.
That was enough time.
It took Mark and Danny less than an hour to
get back.
Danny told me to try on the pin.
He kept looking at my neck.
I stood still.
“You said I was awful. Why are you
celebrating my birthday?”
Mark started to explain.
“Sarah, Danny’s just joking. Try on the pin. He
wants to give you the necklace.”
“He went to the church to get it blessed.”
I laughed inside.
It was a death sentence.
Last time, I was fooled.
Danny put the necklace around my neck.
Then he grabbed my old necklace.
Mark made a joke about Danny liking me too.
I was too busy denying it to notice Danny’s
glare.
I lost consciousness.
Then I woke up as a dog.
I knew what they were planning.
I let them put the necklace on me anyway.
But something was different.
“Where’s your old necklace?” Danny snapped.
I looked surprised.
“It must have fallen under the bed when I was
changing…”
Danny ran into the bedroom.
He got on his hands and knees.
He found it.
He smiled.
He put the new necklace around my neck.
Then he said he had to use the bathroom.
I knew he was going to find Buddy and finish
the swap.
I didn’t stop him.
Mark was distracted.
He was thinking about Danny and the dog.
After a long silence, Danny ran back in.
He looked upset.
“Buddy’s gone!”

Mark’s face turned white.
He started searching the apartment.
Even my closet.
Buddy was still missing.
I was sitting on the couch, playing a game.
Danny lost it.
He grabbed my phone and threw it to the
ground.
Chapter 2
“Sarah, did you get rid of Buddy? I know you
hate him, but he’s still a living thing. How
could you be so cruel?”

Mark jumped in.
“Danny, don’t jump to conclusions. Sarah, the
people adopting Buddy are coming today. We
made a promise. If you don’t want him, that’s
one thing, but…”
I laughed and slapped Danny across the face.
“Are you out of your mind? Smashing
phones? Who do you think you are?”
“Get your eyes checked. Which eye saw me
getting rid of that dog?”
Mark relaxed a little.
I kept going.
“You wouldn’t let me fix him. So I hooked him

up with a breeder friend. I’m getting paid a
grand for it! He’s gonna do his job.”
“I told my friend he could take Buddy to a
dog meat farm if he didn’t cooperate. All that
meat will make a pretty penny, to pay back
for trashing my place!”
Mark and Danny went pale.
The doorbell rang.
This was gonna be good.
“Buddy must be back already,” I chuckled.
“You guys want to split it? Buddy’s huge. I
can’t eat that all myself!”
Mark collapsed into a chair. Danny ran to the
bathroom to puke.
They hadn’t blinked when they destroyed me
in my last life,
Why were they suddenly so sensitive? Double
standards!
If they couldn’t handle the dog meat thing, I
would get the door.
They were just the HOA.
It was a false alarm.
Mark and Danny looked relieved.
Danny grabbed my shirt.
“Where did you take Buddy? If anything
happens to him, you’re dead!”

I acted clueless.
“Why are you so mad? Why do you care
about that dog?”
“If you want, you can have one of the puppies
when he and Jen have their litter!”
Danny was ready to explode.
Mark pulled him off.
“The people who are getting Buddy are
coming soon. Let’s not ditch them.”
“Sarah, just tell us. Where’s Buddy?”
I enjoyed watching them squirm.

“It’s just a breeding. Buddy won’t be alone
there.”
“My friend has the highest quality goldens out
there. I even told him to give her some drugs
to make sure she was ready to go!”
Mark hated me messing with Buddy.
But he couldn’t stop him from staying here
for long.
He switched the guest room lock to keep me
out.
I was already prepared.
While he and Danny were out, I got a
locksmith to open the guest room.

When I opened the door, I saw a really fat
dog.
I had a friend pick up the dog immediately.
My friend was happy to get Jen and paid me
well.
It’s been a few hours.
It should all be done by now.
Those hormones were getting the job done.
In my last life, Buddy broke my body and
broke my spirit.
I was doing it back.
Mark was shocked and pale.

Before they could leave, I had to be evil.
“Why are you in such a rush? Maybe Buddy
likes it there. If you take him away, he’ll hate you for ruining the fun…”
Mark and Danny shuddered.
They slammed the door.
I immediately changed the code and moved
back to the dorms.
I was too afraid to stay at my new place.

Even if the code was changed, I knew that
they would find a way to get back in, so I
added a couple of security cameras to catch
them at it.
Now they can’t screw me over.
When my friend picked up Buddy, he was
fighting back.
My friend gave him some tranquilizers and
took him down right away.
I gave my friend a thumbs up and got the
security camera passwords.
